I've had all of them except the mule.
The next one will be a Kawasaki Ridge or a Ranger northstar.
All of them have done well with regular maintenance.
You need to decide what's important to you.
Reliability, power, cab comfort, towing, suspension travel, cargo capacity, ride, price.
None of them have the market cornered on any one facet. But there are certainly some that sacrifice one or two for the sake of others.
At the end of the day, I want to be able to carry 6-800lbs in the bed, tow logs, ride good enough that my back doesn't hurt after an hour or two, be able to talk to the person next to me at 20, not roast in the cab, be able to cruise at 40, and I never want to do more than fluids, filters, and grease.
Other people have dofferent priorities.
In a perfect world, everyone has a pioneer 500 to hunt tight woods, and a ranger xp 1000 for everything else

Every time I see one of these threads I get excited that we’ll be talking double barrel shotguns.
Then I click on it and realize it’s about ATV’s and I get disappoint.

I’ve looked at the Honda Pioneer, Yamaha Viking, Polaris Ranger, Cam-Am Defender and CF Moto. Are there any makes/models I’m missing that I should look at?
Not really towards your question but I was talking to my local John Deere dealer and he was talking about how good the John Deere side by sides were selling. He told me that more than half of the ones they sold had cabs with heat and AC. I was kind of surprised by that.

I have several friends that have them and love them. They are a little noisy compared to some of the others but have been dependable.

Now that the prices for SxS's have gone buck wild, why never any love for a mahindra rocxor?
Curious, because I want one and nobody seems to buy them.

They are fun to play in but ride absolutely horrible

My Mule pro-mx rides wayyyy better than my Suzuki Samurai. But be-bopping around town in the samurai is pretty fun.

Kubota X1140
Love mine. Can switch from 4 to 2 seat configuration easily. Has the hydraulic tilt bed. Has just been a great asset around the property and food plots.

Thoughts on CFMoto?

The XPs charge you a lot for nicer graphics, sewn seats, and a top end speed you’ll probably never get anywhere near
For a couple grand, you get all that plus a much better suspension, better and bigger tires, and 35% more power. It was worth it for me, because I like to go fast including through thick mud and over bumps.

The XP is nice and I wouldn’t talk anyone out of spending their own money, but I’ve driven both extensively and the suspension in the 1000 and the XP are impossible to tell apart. I routinely take mine over water bars and thick mud loaded down and the 1000 eats it up, and I have a heavy foot.
The 1000 makes 55 ft-lbs of torque and the XP makes 62 ft-lbs which is what you really feel. Same engine, one is just valved to be more sporty in the top rpm range. When we bought there was a $4K difference and they weren’t budging off MSRP, so it was enough to matter.

Bought a Uforce 1000XL back in May. My daughter has used the CRAP out of it since then to the tune of 2000 miles in total, mostly neighborhood driving. No complaints and has given us zero issues. Price point was the ultimate factor for me, got it for $7k less than the Polaris I was looking at and came with roof and winch. Would buy again!

Buddy has one that he uses to cruise around the neighborhood, at clay shoots, etc
It’s the year model that had the Jeep shaped headlights right before they were sued by Jeep

Had a Honda 700-4. The heat is unbearable in the summer. Ended up with a Ranger XP Crew.
The motors in the rangers is under the cargo bed. Honda is under your seat.

I’m a cheap arse but just wondering if anyone had dealt with purchasing equipment or side by side from united rentals? I know they’re used frequently in plants here and see some for sale. I assume they undergo regular maintenance and inspections for the company. But also figure they’re probably in the “drive it like you stole it” category of hours/miles

That’s good to hear. I was looking at the 1000XLs as well, but my interest is definitely piqued by their new U10Pro.
I want 6 seats, a bed, and something brand new. Seems like you get a lot of bang for your buck with them.
I’m not hunting or working this thing, just need it for neighborhood cruising and on grand isle.

Had a Polaris 2010 Polaris ranger XP 800 . Can’t complain a whole lot. The one thing that irked the most was the prop shaft u joints. Didn’t matter if greased them or not every 2 years had replace them. Last 2 years had to fix a lot stuff.
Bought a 2025 Honda pioneer 700 deluxe with the power steering. So far very pleased. As one fellow said in this thread it does turn high RPMs at 30 plus MPH. I don’t drive it much faster than 25. I stay in the woods with it and around my place. Very maneuverable compared to the bigger Polaris
