Let me just say I know almost nothing about suppressors. I know they’ve come a long way in a short time as far as technology goes. I have one hunting rifle with a threaded barrel that I’ve thought about going through all the hoops to get a suppressor for but had a few questions first. Those of you that hunt with yours, did you find that your rifles accuracy changed? Say your rifle liked a certain brand ammo before suppressing it, did that change once suppressed and you had to find a different brand or type of ammo to gain back any accuracy? I ask because I know about subsonic ammo and using that when running a can on say AR’s or 22’s. My hunting rifles are rarely used to just punch paper for fun, they get shot when they get sighted in, or my scope was off and I need to check it, or whenever I want to try out some new ammo. I love to shoot hornady whitetail and Barnes ammo and was worried if I added a can that it would affect the accuracy and I’d have to find some ammo that I didn’t want to hunt with. That’s my biggest concern and why I’ve never jumped in the suppressor pool yet. The rifle I’m thinking of adding a suppressor to is a savage axis 2 pro in 308. It has a 20” barrel.

I have not noticed a change in accuracy after adding a suppressor on any of my rifles. You’re probably going to want to focus on finding a short suppressor for that 20” barrel though.

ETA: I should mention that a thinner, longer barrel will be more likely to have a change in accuracy if there is one, but it’s likely not going to be a problem for a hunting rifle.

Accuracy does not change. Point of impact may. You will likely have to shift zero.

i have two suppressed hunting rifles + my AR 15 that i shoot 2000rds a year through, all suppressed.

I still use the same ammo in my deer rifles after adding suppressors. If your gun liked a certain ammo before a can, it will like it after.

You will need to re-zero. You could be off a 1/2" or 6+ inches after adding a can. Its a simple check and piece of mind versus missing an animal.

I’m not 100% sure on the accuracy part because I’ve been buying a good amount of cans and switching the cans as I get a better can for that gun barrel length. I basically check point of impact when I switch a new can and if I get decent groups I roll with it. I now feel like I’ve got the cans on the right guns so I’ll start dialing them in with the ammo.

I will say that my main hunting rifle a .308 grouped very well with .150 gr Barnes out of a primal .46 cal can and when I switched to my B&T 762 TI the groups opened up a bit with the same ammo so I switched. I’ve now got a PTR Vent 1 on it and haven’t shot the Barnes out of it again and have been using the green tipped core lockt ammo in it. Groups have never been as good as the primal and Barnes.

Your accuracy wont change, but your POI will. You can't be taking the can on and off and expect to drill the same spot.

The can wont make an accurate gun inaccurate, or vice versa

Silencers can actually help with accuracy. Something about the can is helping to stabilize the bullet as it exits the barrel. Also the extra weight tends to help as well

Most of my rifles have never been shot without a silencer so hard to me to say that they are for sure.

I have a tikka 7mag that was lights out. Added a can and it significantly changed the POI. Also made the groups bigger. It’s custom loaded ammo so not sure if the FPS change with the can added did something or not. It’ll still kill deer but not attack driver like it was.

I can't drill the same spot because I suck at shooting, but I can absolutely take the can on and off and it doesn't change the POI

Running Buddy has a can on a 22, it sounds like a pellet gun.

No. I have one rifle that actually shoots better with a suppressor.

As other have said, I have POI shift with most of them. They all shoot just as well with the suppressor though.

Point of impact can shift. I have several Surefire RC2’s, KAC NT4s and a Rhodie 6. The Rhodie is all around excellent but I have noticed impact shifts with it. Silencers the military use like the Surefire and KAC have much less of it, the RC2 has none really
