As impressive as that deer is knowing it was set up to be killed by the highest bidder makes it way less impressive.

Maybe.

But I think we are taking away from the accomplishment of the people of Honey Brake. Good ole boys from the area who work there butts off to achieve these kind of records. Drew and his guys are as good as it comes to stewards, managers, and hard working ole boys. They give everything to that place and act like it's there's to pass down, while not getting the attention. When they started managing the deer herd years ago, this is the goal nobody thought they could achieve. I'm not a webbed foot LA boy, but if I were, I would be damn proud that some of my folks did it.... I say well done to a bunch of Jville/Ferriday baws for making even this rich kid respect where you come from!

I’m sure they work very hard, and I agree that they’re the ones that deserve any credit. But 20k contiguous acres. I’m closer to being surprised it took this long than I am surprised to see such a buck.

Basically Land locked with levees and water. No high fence. Zero pressure on those deer. Not everyone has 50-100k to go hunt them.

100% accurate. That’s why Tyler has to get celebrities with him on the show. Nobody would watch. His dad could put on a tv show. Will be a new state record but should have an asterisk beside it in my opinion. No other hunter in the state had a chance at that deer. Might as well been high fence.

It was not set up to be killed by the highest bidder. Someone said it already, but Realtree has the deer hunting rights for HB. Tyler and Realtree may not put as much of the day-to-day work in as Drew and his team, who are there every day. But they 100% fund the deer hunting operation at HB, and have put in the work themselves.

It would be worse if it was one of the guests who paid all this money that y'all are talking about to kill that buck, rather than one of the guys that fostered that growth. Most people on here don't have a clue what they are talking about. Just another echo chamber where one post by someone who claims to be informed is taken as Gospel. Go do a little reading. Simple as going to HB Facebook or watching the countless videos they have made out there over the years.

Wasn't like shooting fish in a barrel. Big boy just didn't have any reason to wander about.

How many of you don't know the habit's of their favorite deer?

What time of day, how often to the feeder, and so on.

Deer hunting is turning into NIL. Might as well separate the pros and regular folks.

thought real tree farms was high fence? Or is it only part of it?

Free range, low to no fence. Land borders I-185 on east side between Columbus and Lagrange. Realtree Farms and Jeff Foxworthy own just about all of the property on east side between exits 25 and 30. My cousin owns around 5ac directly across interstate on west side and they had one on camera pushing into 160's back earlier in the fall. That particular area of Harris County has the genetics even long before Bill Jordan and Realtree came along. They just allow them to grow and manage the property intensively.

I'll be man enough to say it.... I wish I had the means to manage 20k acres for giant whitetails.....
I've got no problem with it being a record....
funny how no one hardly replied to the pic of the 175 killed nearby because nobody knew that guy....
but we all judged the "celebrity" because it was "daddy's money"

I would have shot it in a heartbeat... and with daddy's money too if I had it...
just sayin...

Just out of curiosity, why would someone like Realtree pay for the exclusive rights to deer hunt HB? It’s an amazing property, but would it not be cheaper and better to lease a couple 1000 acres in the Midwest or somewhere else and have a better shot at 180- 200” deer routinely?

Assuming the exclusive rights to HB is something like $50,000-100,000 a year right?

A 200” typical is extremely rare. That’s about as big as typicals get. Also, the timing of the hunting season in Louisiana might fit well in their schedule. I don’t follow them closely, but I imagine they’ve also got some Midwest hunting covered.

It’s listed as 203” which is likely gross not net. 200” net deer are extremely rare, if it’s 200” gross it’s likely not 200” net

ETA: you are right though a long rifle season likely helps a lot. It’s one thing to have huge deer, it’s another to be able to effectively hunt them in a short window like most gun seasons are outside of the south

Cool Article! I didn't realize how few states have actually produced a 200 inch typical...
neat to see that Arkansas is one of them. Gotta love those delta bucks!

I would bet it is multiple times that, maybe even add a zero at the end too.

The guys running that place aren't doing it for free. It's a business just like anything else. Getting money from realtree or hunters wanting a canned hunt funds the business.
