shite, kings are great if cooked fresh and marinated for a while in Italian Dressing.

People in Florida are happy with smoked mullet...something I don't understand

I tried grilling them following this method......and it was the same day I caught them and afterwards my backyard stunk to high heaven from them. It was one of the worst odors I've ever experienced.

My father in law will let King steaks marinate in milk for hours then rinse them and either fry them
I will only eat them smoked and made into dip.
I catch the fish and clean the fish and bring them to him. I manage to drink ALOT of beer on these nights because I don't want to eat them and he cooks at his house.
My house is a different story. Don't touch my grill, cast iron skillet, or my fish.

You gotta let them soak in ice cold salt water to pull all the blood out. Kinda like a hybrid stripe.

spanish are decent fresh. If not catching much, we'll keep them. They get more respect in bama and florida.
and whoever doesn't keep channel mullet is missing the f* out. not much meat on that filet but damn good.
I've eaten the gaftop before.....and would eat again if someone else caught them, cleaned them, and cooked them. Hell, with enough marinating, cornmeal, cold beer and hot grease, it's hard not to be edible.

I will eat a Gaff too. I love some fried mullet. I guess living in Alabama the past few years has given me a case of the dumbass.

I'm sure all of these are edible and i guess if I fished where the trout limit was 5 or there simply weren't any fish I'd keep them but there's really no point in louisiana. I can't give away all the trout I catch and now have more snapper, grouper, and lemon fish than will fit in my freezer.

Channel mullet and whiting are both nicknames. Actually the fish is a gulf kingfish, I bet if it went by its real name more people would want to keep them it's funny I bet less than 1% of people know the real name. Yes I am a marine biologist.

Cat food is all I can say. Then again, I don't eat catfish. Both are poor people fish.

Not that I don't have any fish right now, but I understand how painful it can be having a full freezer and how big of a problem it can be now a days. If you ever need any help freeing up some space in your freezer and I'll gladly drive to LA to help take some of that stuff of your hands, that's what friends are for..

Members of drum family;
Speckled trout
White trout
Sand trout
Red Drum
Black Drum
Southern Kingfish ( channel mullet )
Gulf Kingfish ( whiting )
Of all of these the two kingfish are the best tasting, remind me of fresh caught and cooked bream.

Yep. I like em, but I don't catch them often. Got on em real good one time and it was a blast.

Hey fin I will take some grouper off your hands. May even swap you a vermilion bay croaker for it

someone(can't remember who) posted a picture of their catch and had about 5 gaftops in there, i just kept my mouth shut
I used to have some honey holes for gaftops. Every cast I could catch one. I could catch 50+ in an hour if I wanted to.
