I'm sure all of these are edible and i guess if I fished where the trout limit was 5 or there simply weren't any fish I'd keep them but there's really no point in louisiana. I can't give away all the trout I catch and now have more snapper, grouper, and lemon fish than will fit in my freezer.
Ground Mullet, (whiting) is just as good fried as all the fish you just listed. I think that is why people are saying don't throw them back.

How do you target these things? I got on em one night under a dock light, eat just like trout

Channel Mullet Aka Crockers. ( Spelling) Are one of the best eating fish in the Gulf. Most of them are between 12oz and 16oz about the size of a brim. They are excellent fried or on baked. I would eat these over speckled trout....

whoa
I never realized you people were talking about croaker, I'll eat them but don't catch them big enough very often
ETA: and anybody that wants fish just has to show up at my house with an ice chest, I've given fish to a few posters from here

They aren't the same thing. Remember when you could catch 2-3 lb croaker at the close rigs? Talk about good eating. Haven't caught one in years.

Spanish Mackerel ...do you eat them?
I've done it and there was nothing wrong with them. Fried that night, was careful to cut out the blood line completely, and soaked them for a bit in weak vinegar. They tasted just fine.
BTW a game warden checked us and gave us crap for having a few Spanish Mackerel in the ice chest. The old "the best way to cook them is use a board and then throw away the fish and eat the board" joke. A lot of Louisianans are pretty picky about the fish they will eat. And then there are the coonasses that eat EVERYTHING.

A guy I fish with on occasion gets all excited about Spanish. It's one of the reasons I am glad I have my own boat now. May I never have to fish in his boat ever again.

lol at the folks on this board that will eat croaker but turn their nose up at spanish.

There not bad if you cook them right away. I like to grill them. But if I'm catching trout I don't waste my time with them.

our spanish are even more oily than normal from the oil spill
