Anyone seeing any signs? I was getting decent bucks on camera first week or so of January, and found a bunch of scrapes but i have been sidelined for last few weeks, and suddenly nothing but few does on cameras now

I used to have property in Evergreen. The deer season was extended to mid February to accommodate the late start of the rut. You will have a big increase in buck activity with the timing of cold weather and the decrease of food. Your last 2 weeks should be very good. Good luck. Anytime I had cold weather late I shot a decent buck.

Scrapes everywhere in Beatrice but no signs of chasing yet. Hopefully this cold kicks them in gear.

Why do the deer rut so late in Alabama

I saw Jackie Bushman say once that he doesn't even start hunting his place until January

seems like a huge difference between say north Louisiana Thanksgiving rut and Alabama January/ Feb rut when they aren't that far apart

Just depends on where you are. Some far south areas will rut into Feb while some areas north will rut in Nov-Dec.

Not South Alabama, but in Clay County just south of Talladega, I've seen one 8-point that isn't usually on our property show up on camera, last week.

A few scrapes.

Still seeing does and fawns in family groups. No chasing, yet.

Been kind of weird, this year. Rut definitely seems late.

I have a buddy watching a few does on field rn. just sent me pics.

Rut is very very strange in bama as most deer are genetically from Ohio,
Pennsylvania, etc. They nearly wiped all deer out i’m 40s or something and had to transplant them in. Ruts are all over the place, we haven’t gotten to hunt the whole rut at my camp around jackson in years.

I saw a young buck harassing a doe in Greene County this weekend, but I also saw an older buck not pay a bit of attention to a group of does too. As late as the late 90's I always made sure to be hunting December 23 and killed a buck chasing almost every year on that day. Now I have no clue when they are going to rut each year
