Snake ID please

My son took this picture on his way home from work (on his potato phone, undoubtably) near Pearland Tx. Any idea on what type of snake this might be?

Thanks. It was about 4 to 5 ft. long, and he says the pictures online look exactly right.

I’m tired of you city slickers using our precious outdoor board for snake I’ds.
This board is only for asking “where can I sell this gun”.
Other than that the OB is closed for business.
Edit: 90% of the time it’s a rat snake

Same, I like to guess the snake before opening the thread. I guess rat snake or dekay brown snake most of the time. I bet my success rate is 80%.

Thats probably because the amethystine python (Simalia amethistina, formerly known as Morelia amethistina), also known as the scrub python or sanca permata in Indonesian, is a species of non-venomous snake in the family Pythonidae that is found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
