Speaking of snakes in Texas, we got this little gem a couple nights ago…

And this beauty last night…

Another from my son in Houston. Taken along a walking path there.

I’ll ask you, because you would know, do these exist in northern Arkansas? Google says no, but I’m curious what you think.

Top one is a Blair’s phase Gray-banded kingsnake. People come from across the country to search for them in West Texas.

Bottom is a Trans-Pecos copperhead.

They should only be in the southern part of Arkansas.

dad, do you do the rodeos
we did many when i was a kid
Okeene OK
Freer, Tx
Sweetwater, Tx
hunted pygmys and easterns for a rodeo in Opp,Al once…

eta: looked it up, o’keene, ok just celebrated their 87th event

The roundup began because early homesteaders in the gypsum-rich hills surrounding Okeene faced significant danger from dense rattlesnake populations. Over 80 years later, it remains a major community fundraiser, with all profits donated to local causes. While it is a celebrated local tradition, the event also faces ongoing criticism from wildlife advocates regarding the treatment and slaughter of the snakes.

No offense, when someone unnecessarily handles a snake (or any wild animal), I always pull for the snake.

You should put she/them in your profile.

“No offense”

I hate you but love you at the same time. I passed killing a rattler for the first time in my life shed hunting last month.

I had a WWTD do moment and let him go

Nah, not a fan of killing snakes.
My dad and my uncle did Okeene once back in the ‘70s though.

I didn’t realize it was a competition.

The vast majority of the snakes I catch are ones that I’m moving off the highway. I think saving their lives entitles me to a quick photo op.

ETA: Around a half dozen cars passed right where we took this guy off the highway today as we took photos. Certain death for that snake if we’re not there.

In that case, it's not needless.
