Okay I’m in Alabama and I’ve got a friend that recently moved from Miami to right outside the state line from me. He has never hunted or really been in the woods. He is curious and would like to accompany me on a few hunts to experience it and see if it is something he may enjoy. Does he need a license as I’ve heard mixed responses? Out of state license is pretty expensive not to mention having to take the hunter safety course. I just want him to experience the sport and see if he enjoys it. What say y’all?

What green jeans don’t know don’t hurt.

Shouldn't need a license to sit and watch.

If you only have one rifle you should be fine.

Nothing's to say you won't get some d-bag green jeans that will hassle you, but sitting in the woods isn't hunting.

Yes they need a license, doesn’t matter is you have one gun or 10. Anyone in the stand of age has to have a license..

What if you're not using a stand? Is that called sitting in the woods?

While I don't agree with it. Alabama law requires a license if they are aiding in the hunt in any capacity. A dickhead greenjeans will say he was helping you watch for deer. A reasonable greenjeans will take the entire situation into consideration and maybe issue a warning as long as he has zero doubt your friend was doing anything other than just being a spectator

If y’all are in any way shape or form sitting together and one of y’all are hunting all people sitting together must have a license. Now if the person without a gun Is sitting in a stand/ground/tree without a firearm that is Ok

No license needed if he is not actually hunting. Unless on state or federal land that requires a license.

Probably shouldn't be any other way. Would be easy for someone who can't obtain a license to hunt.

I’ve tried to find the regulation I’m curious if you have a link for it? I’m striking out and want to be legal otherwise he will not go if he has to pay a few hundred dollars. I know I took my girlfriends before without a second thought as to needing a license.

Not Alabama, but a guy in our club had a bunch of Mexicans that worked for him. And he used to bring them to walk the dogs in the cutover to get a jump and the game wardens showed up one weekend and gave them all tickets for “participating in the hunt” (as they put it). This was in Louisiana in the late 80’s. IDK if they got the tickets dismissed or if they got paid.

Problem is proving that he wasn't hunting. Green jeans may be having a bad day and say otherwise.

Well there is one Green Jeans in Lower Alabama that isn’t reasonable. Haven’t dealt with him but he is a prick from all accounts I’ve heard. May just take my buddy and we get caught we get caught. The fine for hunting without a license is less than the license in itself. Hell in 35 years I’ve never been checked fishing or hunting.

Pretty much just one. He has a reputation of being extra. People that knew him in high school said he was picked on a lot even by his fellow band members.

I called last year about my girlfriend sitting in the shooting house with me. They told me as long as she didn't help in any way, including even saying there's a deer, then she didn't need a license. I am in NW Bama and that's what I was told.

Without telling the entire story, I was involved in the incident that resulted in “aiding in the hunt” being added to the regs in my state.
