35"+ beams is a monster

with good tine lengths, you'd be looking at the equivalent of a 170"+ whitetail

My oldest son shot one in full velvet in December in the Hill Country years ago. Beautiful mount. From what I understand, the velvet gets messed up pretty quickly bc they fight a lot, the local taxidermist was surprised at how good a shape his animal was in.

ETA: 30” main beams are considered a trophy, his was 31”, 38” is Muy Grande status. Nice going. His was free range near Mountain Home, so we weren’t far apart.

The one in mountain home, did it have multiple tines coming off? We had a company deer lease there for 30 years and we had an axis gene that caused multiple tines off the main beam. Usually one down low and one up towards the end.

Congrats baw. That’s a hoss! Wish I knew how to post pics still. I got a couple bangers on cam too.

No branching, and his wasn’t particularly wide. I shot one the year before that was really wide, but only 27”. If you combined the two, you’d have had a real trophy.

I’ve seen the ones you’re talking about, would love to bag one of those.

Cool critter. Only the OB can bash supplemental feeding and then celebrate it. That thing doesn’t get CWD?

He was too heavy to load by myself and I loaded that axis in a lifted sxs by myself. I was in a bind right at dark searching for something to drag him off with because I didn’t want to drag him off by hand. Ended up finding a cell cam strap that comes with the cameras in the buggy

I grabbed the axis by the antlers and pulled it into the bed but it was tough. Tried it with the hog by the back legs and said screw that.

Beautiful Place! Glad you burned those days and went now? lol

Wish I was in your shoes right now rather than staring out over the CBD.

Heck yeah.

Even got some work done during the middle of the day so I don’t have too much to go back to on Monday.

Sounds like a win win, but for the taxidermy bill (if you're mounting the axis lol)
