This is perhaps a stupid question, but I am new to all of this. A friend gifted me his old Remington 870 Express and I have a question about registering. I am new to all of this, but in the state of Louisiana, do I have to get it registered in my name?

Also, I haven't shot anything since I was in the Army which was a lifetime ago. What tools and or accessories should I get for it. Going to use it to go squirrel hunting later on.

Bore snakes are nice for cleaning.

You’ll need a boat accident report from the sheriff.

What communist state did you come from that requires shotgun registration?

No tools are needed to break it down for cleaning. Down load a owners manual. Easy gun to break down and clean.

The only tool you will need is something like a small Phillips screwdriver to knockout the pin for the trigger assembly

I just use a small Allen wrench and a little tap

Basic gun cleaning kit will do. A Bore snake is easy to use. And, buy a set of chokes for it since you may want to dove hunt, turkey hunt, or even shoot some clays. Have fun with it.

Make sure it has a plug in it so that it cannot hold more than three shells (2 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber).

Are there threads inside the end of the barrel?

What size shells does it take?

Are you serious Clark?

I've never hunted in Louisiana but I kill a ton of tree rats and I've never heard of a place that requires that.

I load up 5+1 #4 shot and 6 more in a sleeve attached to the stock.

2 3/4" to 3" shells, and I don't see any threads

From LA hunting regs pamphlet.

METHODS OF TAKING QUADRUPEDS & RESIDENT GAME BIRDS

PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES

Use of shotguns larger than a 10 gauge or capable of holding more than three shells.

Possession of shotguns in which the plug may be removed without disassembly.

From the statute, RS 56:116.1:

B. No person shall do any of the following:

(b) Except as provided for in Paragraph (D)(3) of this Section (which pertains to killing outlaw quadrupeds on private property), take or kill any game bird or wild quadruped with or by means of an automatic loading or hand operated repeating shotgun capable of holding more than three shells. Any shotgun capable of holding more than three shells shall be plugged with a one-piece filler incapable of removal through the loading end, so as to reduce the capacity of the gun to not more than three shells at one loading.

Pennsylvania, but I don't know much about guns and incorrectly assumed Louisiana laws were different.

Looks like PA does not require registration either.

quote:

Do I have to register my firearms in Pennsylvania?

No, in fact in Pennsylvania it is actually illegal for any government or police agency to keep a registry of firearms per 18 Pa.C.S. § 6111.4 (Registration of firearms). If you legally possess bring your firearms into the Pennsylvania or come into possession of the firearms legally, no further action is required.

It should be noted however that all transfers of handguns in Pennsylvania are required to go through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) and as such the Pennsylvania State Police keep a "Sales Database" of all handguns purchased within the Commonwealth.
