I’m the exact opposite. I’ve always shot with both eyes open. Handguns, rifles, shotgun. Doesn’t matter.

My pop made my brother start shooting left handed when he was a child because he was left eye dominant, but right handed. If I was one of the folks posting here that shoots cross-handed, I'd switch over. It shouldn't take a grown man more than a box or two of shells to learn how to shoot left handed if he's left eye dominant. Then you can shoot with both eyes open.

Does not work for right handed, left eye dominant people like myself.

And I don’t see myself being able to free stand and shoot lefty. Benchrest shooting, probably, but not damn way I can stand and shoot free hand left handed.

Sure you can. Just practice a little.

Get a red dot with a light and shoot at night.

Your body should do it naturally

It's much easier to lead a bird with both eyes open. Practice with a stationary target and just shoot it over and over again to learn your point of impact. After enough practicing and learning your point of impact your aiming point will become natural. After a while you'll be able to lead your target with both eyes while grabbing your aim with your dominant eye.

I can’t do it. I either see 2 sight and one bird or one sight and 2 birds. I have never been able to not see double of one or the other.

I've never shot a gun with an eye closed. Naturally the only time I've used one eye exclusively was when sighting through a scope, but even then, the other eye is open.

I typically close both my eyes while shooting a shotgun. Unless I’m brush checking, then I keep both eyes open cause it’s usually a hip shot, and I want to see if anything runs out after I shoot.

I made the switch when I started shooting skeet more competitivly. Not being able to to see the clay come out of the shooting house on station 2/3 because of my closed left eye proved to be a disadvantage.

I have never closed my eye. Look at the target not the gun. When I am “on” I can’t recall even seeing the bead.
