And no OBers have been trying to catch them. what gives. There are a blast on 50 lb tackle. Just tag and release. Or cut them free.

Looks like a variety of sharks here, hammerheads, black tips, bulls, etc. anyone have any idea what is going on?

I would think they are feeding on something but no mention of that, maybe eating flounder rays or mating but they doesn't explain the different species of sharks. Could they be staying in shallows because they are scared of something in the deeper water? Maybe big Mako's or Great Whites, pissed of dolphin school?

Any of you locals, ole timers or charter guys know what is going on here?

Black tips aren't bad to eat. I've fried them, and it's good.

The best fish I ever gave my neighbors was black tip. They liked it better than Snapper Grouper trigger fish Mackeral etc. You just have to soak it in buttermilk with lemon for a few hours and then in a Italian dressing mix with liquid smoke Tabasco etc overnight. It is very nice white meat filets.

Used a variation of that with a saltwater brine mix infused with liquid smoke for king Mackeral too and they also tasted very good. I hate any fishy after taste so always tried to get that out of the meat and then flavor it a little.

Black tips are really fun to catch too they will tail walk and go airborne on you in a minute. A good 100-150 pounder will wear you out.

I'm going surf fishing on Elmer's Island Saturday. Hopefully the water doesn't look like that here!

This happened 20 years ago when I was 13 and was one of the most memorable weeks of my life. I took a buddy with us planning to fish the little pond behind delchamps but all the sharks were there when we got there. Being the teenage delinquents we were we price tag switched a couple shark sized rigs with some Mickey Mouse poles and spent the entire week catching whiting in the surf, cutting a slit in the side then pitching them about 30 feet in front of a swimming by shark.

Caught a couple 6 foot black tips and released them, then found out the perdido marina restaurant was taking shark donations and if you gave them a shark they'd let you and your party come in and eat for free.

Small blacktip sharks are pretty damn good. Caught one in Boca Grande a few years back. Fried it up and damn, it was good.

Yea walked into the bedroom earlier to tell the wife I had booked the condo, and the first thing she says "wait is that where all the sharks are at? I don't know if I want to go down there." That never came up when she was on my arse the past 3 days telling me to get the condo booked.

to the people going to Elmers, I went last saturday. Be prepared to climb over 2 feet of seaweed to get into the water. It does look similar to the pics except sting rays everywhere. They were coming out of the water like blue marlins chasing matrix shad.

So basically make it taste like anything other than shark, gotcha.
