OBC I now you're full of chit BUT if you've only done half of what you claim you're still a better hunter than me.

Oh yeah, we used to go all the time when I was a kid.

Optimally, you want to be about 1/2 mile down wind of a huge roost where you can shoot small groups that filter off all morning.

Mid morning the whole bunch will get up, circle and sit back down in the same spot 2 or 3 times "warming up" as the guides used to say. Sounds like thunder...

If your lucky you get the whole experience of the tornado if they come your way. I've hunted rag spreads probably 20 or 30 times in my younger life and got the tornado 2 or 3 times.

When the guide is yelling at the top of his lungs not to shoot yet and they keep coming and start sitting down all over you, it's a hell of an experience.

Don't doubt it. But hunting 2-4 guys in a wet rice field, and 800 windsocks will work for me every time

Did you know the AP has a Crackville Road? I traveled on it today. I thought it was just going to end in some farmer's field and I was going to get shot with rock salt.

I'm currently in central Kansas on a duck hunt where we usually smoke them this time of year. Now granted it is much warmer than normal but the duck hunting is still shite. Lots of geese but these guys up here say they have friends in North Dakota that are just starting to get their first really big pushes of mallards.

I predict a crappy second split, and a banner third split in Feb when it gets cold.

Kansas is usually locked up like a safe by late Jan but this year you may get lucky.

Locked up is best according to our guide. Easier to pattern the birds, and like jimbeam said, dry fields are where its at.
