I hope this one has a happy ending but sadly it sounds like the search is for recovery at this point. I read in another post that a cadaver dog is on the scene.

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (WAFB) - Authorities are actively searching the waters of lower St. Martin Parish for a missing Pierre Part man after a boat was found crashed and a dog alone.
According to the La. Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the search began in Banister Canal around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, after agents were notified about an unmanned 18-foot aluminum vessel with a tiller steer motor by a commercial fisherman who came across it.
Based on evidence found at the scene, agents say they believe the boat hit a pylon, which ejected the operator into the water.
Officials said, according to the operator’s last known contact, he left to go fishing with his dog around 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, and never returned.

Yes that truly sucks, happened to my Uncle and a classmate of mine. I tell my son all the time to make sure he has life jacket on, and I do the same. No one swims well when they knocked out.

The first Spring days can be dangerously deceptive. Feels almost hot out but the water is still deadly cold.

WEAR A DAMN LIFE JACKET!!!!
Don’t care how old or experienced you are at driving a boat. For the life of me I can’t comprehend why people don’t wear them, especially in shallow Louisiana waters. I think less of a fella when I see them not wearing a life jacket while they are driving a boat.
Yes you may still knock your head but you have a better chance of survival if you are floating verses sinking.

I'm reading the book Over the Edge: Death in the Grand Canyon right now, and I am on the chapter of drownings, and the amount of people that have gone (or attempted to) go down the Colorado River through the Canyon without life vests is truly astounding. Darwinism at its finest. Great read by the way, highly recommend.

now I feel shitty. Was at Dioron's Chevron this morning when sheriff and LDWF were gassing up boats next to me and I made a smart assed comment to them "dont forget to wear your kill switch!" One on them looked at me poker faced and said, "Thanks. We won't."

News said the current is flowing pretty good and they expanded the search to the swamps. Perhaps he got carried downstream and hung up on a sunken tree? Or maybe he wandered into the woods and died there. I just don't like people assuming things about a tragedy when nothing is really known.

I didn't. It was suggested by officials searching for the guy. But thanks for asking.

Just saw on FB ldwf that they found the body, states that it appeared that the boat hit a pylon and he was found without a PFD.
