They need to be sealed again, what's the best way to do this and with what?

Forget sealing/varnishing.

Get some semi transparent or solid exterior water based stain to match the existing column color.

Look up TWP. It's perfect for that . The water beads up like on a freshly waxed car. Cajun cypress in Baker carries it. About 32 a gallon

So polyurethane is not a good choice?

Poly will just have to be redone every other year

Poly cracks and gets the spiderweb look. TWP goes into the wood. It's avail in a few different colors too

We just redid all of out wood outdoor furniture with Behr but we will be using THP on the fence. Will report back on which looks better and in a few years, which lasted longer.

Thin out epoxy. Be done with it forever. First you will have to remove the crap you though you seal it with.

No, wood. Just waiting on some glue to get started. I will start a thread when I do with picture.

Did this 20 years ago on my place in TX. Best thing I ever did! They still look new.

Fish, please explain.

For a brand new mahogany exterior door, what would you do?

I hate to put any varnish or poly type product, only to have to strip it off in a few years...

I would look hard at Waterlox, perhaps the marine grade if it gets direct sunlight...

This is what everyone I've talked to about doing my front door says to use. My front door is always in direct light.

I guess that's what I'll refinish with when I go to sell this thing.
