I have a 10/22 with the 16" barrel in a magpul x22 stock. Did a bx trigger upgrade along with the normal internal upgrades. Right now I have a primary arms red dot that I put on it when I first bought it for plinking. But now I have a charger for plinking and want to make this more of a target puncher/ varmint hunter. I'm trying to stay under $300 for a scope with a simple reticle. I've been looking at the nikon rimfire either 3x9 or 4x12, the burris fullfield iv 2.5x10 or 3x12, and the athlon scopes. How important is it to have parallax adjustment? I'm going to be shooting under 100 yards. I know these are sfp scopes but I am open to ffp also but I haven't stumbled across any in my price range. Not looking for anything Gucci just a solid scope. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry to be so long winded but trying to get as much needed info in the OP as possible.

I have a SIG SAUER Whiskey 3 3-9x40 on one of my .22s.

The glass was really so much better that others that I was looking at (Burris, Nikon, vortex) and it was cheap $99

Also, there isn’t a FFP scope available for under $300.
There is a Burris that starts around 600-700 and there maybe be an Athlon that’s 500-600 maybe?

Funny you should mention this. I'm looking at a scope for my new Savage 22LR Mark 2. I've got 4.5-14X Burris Timberlines on my 2 other 22's. Apparenly not paying close attention, I bough a Burris Droptine (w/ same magnification) for the new gun. The Droptine's a nice scope, but it's not a Timberline and it's closest parallax adjustment is 50 yds. I think adjustable parallax for a rimfire is important if you're going to shoot >50 yds. Before finding a used Timberline, I put a Vortex 4-12X Copperhead rile scope on my Tikka T1x. I really struggled w/ the parallax until I replaced it w/ the Timberline. I also think a bullet drop type reticule is useful since the 22LR trajectory is more like a rainbow at 75 yds and beyond. Most rimfire scopes w/ parallax adjustment are in the 3-9X range but there are a few that max out a 12X. Given the minimal recoil of a 22LR, I think one can get a pretty good scope w/o having to miss a house payment.

Unfortunately, the Timerline's been discontinued. Hawke and Bushnell make nice 4-12X scopes as well. I 'm looking closely at replacing the Droptine w/ one of these Midway or Amazon Athalon scopes. The Amazon scope has an illuminated reticle. If the gun's main use will be squirrel l hunting, I like a 2-7X. Why don't you go ahead and buy one of the Athalons so you can tell me how you like it?

ETA: I don't have a FFP scope.

I have the same rifle as you with the Magpul stock. I have a burris full field II 3-9-40. It’s $300 on Amazon. It’s a great setup. Really like scope for its price point. You’re not going to find a FFP for your budget.

I really like the Leupold Freedom rim fire line. No idea where they fall on the scope for the money scale

For shooting paper I'd consider a fixed power. You're going to get a lot more scope for the money over a variable, and typically target shooting you're dialed up to max magnification anyway. I know it's on backorder, but you won't do much better than this for $300.

Nikon Prostaff Rimfire

Nikon discontinued making rifle scopes in November 2019. What some vendors have on the shelf is "new, old stock". No clue about warranty service since replacement parts will eventually dry up and they cannot replace broken scopes with a new one.

The Tract 22 FIRE 3-9x40 Rimfire Scope is a great bargain and priced around $150-175. Parallax is set at 50 yds and perfect for rimfire. Another option is the SIG whiskey3 3x9 scope priced around the same as the TRAC. 1/4MOA adjustments and parallax is set at 100 yds if that matters.

I was browsing a catalogue that I got a gift card from work and came across a Bushnell Nitro 2.5-10 x 44. It was the only scope available. I have an old 22 mag my uncle gave me and was wondering if y’all thought this would work.
