Multiple reviews dropped today for the Shield M&P Shield Plus, a subcompact double stack 9mm that holds 10+1 or 13+1 (w/extension mag).

It's basically S&W's first direct competitor to the Sig P365 and the Hellcat. It's supposed to only be about 1" thick and virtually the same size as the current small Shield 2.0, which only holds 8+1.

They also changed the trigger to a more flat-faced design.

Specs:

Caliber: 9mm Luger

Capacity: 10+1, 13+1

Sights: White Dot Front with White 2-Dot Rear

Action: Striker Fire

Grip and Frame Material: Polymer

Barrel and Slide Material: Stainless Steel with Armornite® Finish

Slide and Frame Finish: Matte Black

Barrel Length: 3.1”

Overall Length: 6.1?

Weight: 17.9 Oz.

Safety: Manual Thumb Safety

MSRP: $553

...

Reviews are all over YT. They say it fits the same holsters as the single stack and also expect it to sell about $100 less than MSRP.

Ruger also released their Max 9 to compete today as well. This segment is becoming incredibly competitive now.

Meh, it has its purpose, but for a carry gun I'd rather the 2.0 with 8+1. I don't want the extra weight of 5 more rounds to carry. If I can't hit you with 9 rounds, I can at least find cover to get to my other mag.

Just got an email this morning from Smoky Mountain Guns & Ammo (Great place to purchase firearms online if you haven't heard of them). They have both models in stock right now - w/ or w/o thumb safety - for $599. So they're asking over MSRP but I'm sure that's because it's a new, hot item and also because of the gun-buying-frenzy climate we're currently in.

EDIT TO ADD: Although I love the way a Shield fits in my hands and shoots, if I were to be in the market for a 13+1 carry gun, I'd go with the Hellcat OSP and Springfield's new Hex Wasp Red Dot.

I'm surprised it took S&W this long. This should be a real hit considering how well the original shield has done. Crazy to think not that long ago the Sig 365 broke the mold with their "patented" double stack mags in a single stack gun. Now every big manufacturer is cranking out these guns.

Brownells has the manual safety model in stock, $499 shipped with code MZB.

NMS with night sights same price, but only for pre-order. Damnit, I’m about to drop another $500...

So you are whining about the weight of 5 rounds yet talk about carrying a whole extra magazine. That's just stupid.

Smith has slowly introduced all of the improvements people were making on their own to the M&P line by dropping in Apex parts. Smart on their part, but they damn near owe them royalties at this point.

Where did my post say that I carried an extra mag.
I have extra mags all over the place, but I rarely carry a 2nd on me.

5 more rounds in the gun weighs more than just those 5 rounds. You have to add materials to the gun and mags to house those extra rounds. I want my carry gun as light and thin as possible.
TETO.

Surprised it doesn't have an optic cut.

The point of the slim single stacks is to keep the overall width down. I doubt too many people buying them want a big light up front. Most people put those on larger double stacks.

That's quite surprising indeed. Also, the Shield 2.0 comes in at 18.3oz from what I just looked up...

At .99" for the 2.0 vs 1.1" for the Plus, I'd imagine they had to take some poly out of the mold, especially in the grip area, in order to account for a wider magazine, so that might explain the less weight for a higher capacity gun.

It's confirmed they will have a model with that option.

That's not that impressive. All these claims were that it was "just as thin" had me ready for an upgrade, but 10% isn't insignificant. I just checked my M&P compact and it's 1.15 if you ignore the palm swells. I like the trigger but the rest is starting to look like marketing.

You sumbitches! I swear! Always makin me spend money!

I just preordered a Performance Center model with Fib Optic front & rear's at Brownells...

USE CODE: MZB

Now, the important question... Anyone interested in a less-than-year-old Shield 2.0 Perf Center model that I posted about HERE?

I'm most interest in seeing how that flat-face trigger is going to be. I'm a flat-face trigger fan and looking forward to it.

My wife carries the 2.0 and I've found it to be wildly inaccurate so the extra rds maybe needed. Also, It has misfired a couple times in practice and that is problematic. Size and feel of the gun is great, but I end up getting the Sig..
