Get a used belt walkbehind for half the price of a new cheap ztr.

Don't get one of the smaller JDs. Have about 5 acres I mow. Have a D140 48 inch for about 2 years now. Belt comes off about every other time I use it. Have to replace every third time I have to put back on. The smaller JDs just suck.

I can’t find anything but xt2 around here. There are not a lot of cub dealers but plenty of Deere.

For 1/2 acre I would get the Troybilt from Lowe’s $999. Great mower for that price.

Look on FB marketplace. I grabbed a Cub Cadet for $600 with under 40 hours on it.

That’s why they invented the beer holding hardhat. Even comes with a straw!

I'm going on 18 years with my Snapper. No problems. I bought one because my neighbor had a Snapper that looked to be old as dirt but he swore by it.

Check box stores out late Friday afternoon. They will have refurbs sitting out front for almost half price. I bought a Cub Cadet that way for 600 less. Haven’t have any problems out of it in the 10 years I’ve had it.

I have about a .75 acre lot. Was going to get a riding mower, but didn't like that it was difficult to get around trees, edges of flower beds, etc. I ended up going with the Toro Timemaster 30 inch mower. It has one of the best cuts I've ever seen, my lawn looked awesome after using it. Something you might want to consider.

Cub cadet makes a zrt s. Model has a steering wheel on it. Easier for the wife. But same performance as any zero turn

I went back and looked at the X350 and I have almost made my mind up with it. The four year warranty and dealer less than a mile away really pushed it over the edge.

Get a zero turn. Your wife and kid will learn to operate it easily within a few tries. Your lawn will be cut in a fraction of the time.

Not to hijack the thread but do any of the aforementioned mowers tear up a lawn more/less than others? My lawn stays wet which keeps me from considering a riding mower.

I'm really not worried about time as small as lawn is. I've narrowed it down to Hustler Raptor 42 or JD X350. Really tough decision.

I just bought an Exmark Quest and was surprised at the damage it did to my lawn on the first cut. I also didn't realize how much heavier it is than my previous mower. We'll see how it does this summer. I've been using an old JD lawn tractor so this is something new for me.

Was the cut quality any different or are they about the same?

Hard to tell. I used it 2 wks ago for the first time so the grass wasn't quite ready. I was really mulching leaves with the mulching blades more than anything. But my yard was somewhat soft from recent rains and the casters dug in on some areas. I've cut with the JD in softer conditions so this summer will be interesting. I mainly bought the ZT to speed the process so I'm not AS concerned with the cut but I do live in a neighborhood so I'd prefer not to tear shite up.

I have a Husqvarna YTH24K48. I’ve had it since 2012. Never had any trouble with it. I do the yearly maintenance of changing the oil, air filter and plugs. What ever you do don’t buy any yard equipment from Lowe’s. Give your local dealer the business. I bought mine from Port Vincent Farm & Supply. Super nice people there
