I'm looking for a riding mower for my residential 1/2 acre lawn. I like the riding mower versus zero turn because my teenage son and wife can operate easier. I stopped by the JD dealer and looked at the S240, X330, and X350. The X350 really stood out because of Kawaski engine and better deck system but should I be exploring other options than JD? Cub Cadet and Husqvarna come to mind but not as many dealers close to me.

I have cub cadet and love it. My first riding mower though so nothing to compare it too.

Honestly, it takes about an hour to really get the hang of a zero turn, and im sure your teenager would enjoy that much more.

I know it sounds weird, but a ZT just makes mowing a LOT more enjoyable to me.

Out of the mowers you listed, I would go with the X350. It's warranty is a bit better than the S240, and also as you mentioned, it has the Kawasaki.

The S240 actually has a kawaski in it but the X330 doesn't. They make you step up to a X350 for the Kawasaki.

Yeah I know it sounds crazy but push mowing in 100 degree heat just doesn't interest me. I know I would be fine with a home depot model but I don't mind paying for quality if it last.

What he said. And the comfort level is way up. Every standard riding mower I’ve ever used seems like it wears my back out from being hunched over driving it, but the zt you sit back comfortable at the controls. And way more fun. I will go cut my grandparents couple of acres even when it doesn’t need it because I like it so much.

Hard to drink a beer on a ZT with the handles. I still use a 1988 wheel horse with a 30" deck. A beer is a must to match the duct taped seat. Ole red is

Im on 1 acre and I have the box store JD 48" deck. I get it all done in under and hour. I've never had any trouble with it. Owned it for 5 years now.

I have a 2004ish JD L110 (42") with a Kohler 17.5hp for my 1/2 acre lot. It takes 40-45 minutes to cut mine. The mower is similar to the D series the box stores carry. I've had not a lick of trouble out it. Would love to have the X series but can't justify the price for the short time I'm on it.

I sell all three and like the cub XT3 with the driveshaft & electric pto the best. They are all decent units.
It all comes down to which dealer is next to you to service you.

Does Cub even have Kawasaki engines in the XT3?

4 yr limited warranty
Kohler command
Drive shaft

I have guys that will not touch a Kawasaki due to the valve issues they had a few years back that occurred around 300 hours which were not covered under warranty. I can say the same for Briggs and Kohler. They all have their issues and bad runs. If you look at just engines your cutting yourself short.

Command been a decent engine on these units and out for years. I have not seen many back for driveshaft or engine issues.

The price on these have always been higher. I still got guys with 20 yr old units that are running. You get what you pay for on these units.

I like the decks come separate so someone can buy a stamped or fabricated deck depending on their needs.
