Would you pay $1200 for this gun? I know Remington isn't the best quality out there, but there's something about an 870.

no sir....that is about the nicest 870 I have seen, but if I were going to spend that much on a gun, I would go with something else.

Back in the day the 870 was a rock solid shotgun. I own one of the older 870 with the metal trigger assy, now it's all plastic and cheap! Buy something else.

There are a lot of better shotguns for around the same price.

I have had two 870 Wingmasters. One my father gave me when I was 12 or rather bought for himself since he didn't have a pump and I just took it and started using it. I killed many ducks by his side in Pecan Island with it as a meat gun. When I had a houseboat in Port Eads some dozen years later I turned my pirogue over and lost it.

It was hard to go tell him that. A week later he called me to his office, opened the trunk of his car and handed me a new one. He had tears in his eyes and told me how much he liked to watch me shoot that gun and wished we could hunt together again, which we never did.

I don't shoot it much anymore as I shoot a Super Black Eagle II now with 3" or 3.5" shells and the 870 only shoots 2 3/4". But it is in my gun safe next to his Browning side by side and my dead brothers Belgian made Browning A5. I oil and wipe them down from time to time and remember the ducks at Amos Heberts Pecan Island lease or Pas A Loutre that the three of us enjoyed.

So no I wouldn't buy that gun I already have one. However if for some reason it got lost I would not have a problem paying $1200.00. The memories are worth far more and it is a worthy prop.

So this is a brand new shotgun that Remington is marketing as "classic" and trying to sell for $1200? Hell no I wouldn't pay that.

With that said I have an older 870 wingmaster 20ga, and I love that shotgun. I bought it used at Jim's. When I bought this one they had another newer 870 wingmaster in the used rack as well and I compared them. The older wingmaster was a better shotgun and it really wasn't even close.

You would be paying an extra $800 for upgraded stock and some engraving. Craziness.

I'm sure it's a fine shotgun, but a pump over $1000 just ain't gonna sell.

That said, I have been looking hard to replace my old meat saw express with a wingmaster. My express has never failed to work, but it's a heavy arse poorly finished ugly arse gun.

I'm still boycotting Remington. $1200 is about twice what I would pay for an pump, at the absolute high end.

I have an 870 Wingmaster that I've had for almost 40 years. Best shotgun ever. I'd be willing to bet the gun pictured is a few steps above the Express as far as quality goes.

i have one that my dad gave me that has to be 40 years old. Plain barrel, full choke, and only shoots 2 3/4". It is still a beautiful gun and I have killed many doves and squirrels with it. I am pretty sure he said he paid $75 for it brand new, so no I would not spend $1200.

Nah, get you a pre 90's vintage wingmaster, you'll have a better gun for about $350.

I am with you. After Remington screwed me out of $150 on my rebate, I will never buy another gun or ammo from them.

I have one. My buddy has a firearms license and bought it and didnt use it. He got it for $950 I think. I paid $750 for it. It the nicest shotgun I own and I have Wingmasters, a Citori, AL390, etc. I only took it duck hunting once last year but for sure I will take it dove hunting this year. Its an amazing shotgun. I do agree however that 1200+tax would be a bit much.

Yeah Martini..I have a similar story...it's with an 870 Express though...not a full blown Wingmaster.

Most guys/girls want a car for graduation...Not me..I wanted a shotgun. It was good enough for my Dad in 1966 for his grad gift...it was good enough for me. So Mom and Dad went to the LSU/Alabama game in 1989 and then went into Mississippi to buy my shotgun from a Kmart (I think).

Only long gun my father ever gave me. He later gave me a Star 9mm which didn't load hollow points...so we horse traded and I got his Ruger 9mm later. Those 2 guns I'll never get rid of.
