Anybody have one? How are they as far as reliability and accuracy? I’ve been eyeing lever guns for about 6 months and haven’t pulled the trigger on any yet. From the time Ive been interested in lever guns, I’ve wanted one in 35 whelen but of course there isn’t any. About a week ago I discovered the Remington 141 (pump) 35 Remington and almost bought one, but then I found out about the 7600 and there’s a few chambered in 35 whelen for sale, but they run at least $1800.
I’m very partial to 35 whelen because it’s 1 of only 3 calibers I load for so I know ammo won’t be an issue. I just don’t want to buy a $2,000 rifle that’s going to give me problems.

MY Remington 760 Gamemaster pump in 30.06 with a Weaver K4-F. It’s a good shooter. I like it.

but does the pump action really seat the cartridge well enough to be accurate out to 300 yards. My experience with a 7 mm mag sez no.

I think James Ray used that to snipe King.

I don’t shoot past 150yds and max 100yds at an occasional target when fooling around. So, it’s accurate enough for me.

Buddy years ago had one in 30-06 it was a 2-3in gun. I would always tease him about it being inaccurate to which he would reply “ just need to be able to hit a milk jug at 100yd”
He did stack deer with it and I never remember it having any issues, now the 7400 “jam master” on the other hand I don’t know anyone who liked them.

My brother has one that’s killed probably 200 deer. Not sure about 300 yd accuracy but I’ve shot it at 200 and shot groups like a skoal can. I want one for my son but they are hard to come by now

Edit. In .270 win

It's hard to believe the prices of these used guns.

Remington should start making them again.

I have shot and witnessed the 7400 several different ones shoot clover leaf at 100.

In the mid 1980’s there was a batch that got out with the chambers a few thousands too small. Other than that, it was operator error and owner neglect.

Dayummm

They're fantastic rifles. I've shot a few that were as accurate as any bolt rifle and one that didn't shoot worth a damn. Certainly wouldn't stop me from buying one. They are great rifles and if you do get a boogered up one, rebarrel it. Doesn't cost a whole lot.

It's a great choice for a guy who is used to hunting with a pump.

I’ve never heard of a 7600 giving someone problems. Whether it’s worth $2k to you is your own business. It’s not worth it to me but I don’t need that rifle.

Also, I’ve overpaid for shotguns and outdoor art for nostalgic purposes, so wouldn’t fault a man at all for overpaying for a rifle they really wanted.

7600????

You mean the Jam-O-Matic

Have seen lots of issues with this and the Model 76 series. Usually caused by owner using wrong grain bullets. The newer models are much better than the ones produced in the late 80s and 90s.

No. He means the pump.

They are highly reliable and can be pretty accurate. I have only shot one a couple times, but a couple of guys I know that have used them say they kick like hell even in 270 and ‘06. So I imagine that 35 will be worse.

Oops my bad. Yeah not real familiar with the pump. You do not see a lot of them at the range.

Ive had a 7400 30-06 for years. I don't shoot it past 100 yards so i cannot tell you the accuracy beyond that. And I have not had and issues with it not locking as you mentioned.

The 7400 is a step up from the 74. I have seen a lot of issues with people using too light of a grain bullet and having them jam. Mainly the 30.06 caliber. A lot of it may also have to be the care and cleaning. We always call them Jam-o-Matics

The Jam-O-Matic. I've heard a few people call them that, but I've never had any issues with them. Used a 7600 in 30-06 for several years bagging a few deer. My dad used it for 30 years with no issues while hunting. Mostly close shots (less than 150 yards) but it never let us down.

My dad has one in 300 savage. When I was a kid I thought it kicked like a mule, but it was accurate. I need to shoot it again now that I'm 50 pounds heavier.

I have one I bought when I was 16 years old. I had a trigger job done on it and reblued 25 years ago. I can kill a crow at 150 yds and it's killed a pile of deer. It'll shoot 1/2" groups at 100yds.
