I started off inshore fishing with bass gear, so the rods were typically 6.5 MF. I tried one ML St Croix for a spinning rig and now my inshore rods are ML or M with a moderate tip (those are hard to find). It's a lot more fun and the flex does help with hook retention if you don't get a great set.

Just don't use them around docks.

My go to rods are a Shimano Stradic 3000 on a Waterloo Salinity rod, and I have a Penn Battle 3 (2500) on a Waterloo Phantom. Both 7’, both MH. I also have a 2500 Stradic on a 7’ M Castaway Skeleton. I typically tie one MH with a popping cork and weightless hook, one MH with a bottom rig, and the M pole with jig head to throw Matrix plastics.

You cannot go wrong with a Penn rig. I’ve caught many Snapper on my FiLs boat with a Penn Fierce combo, and those Battles are bulletproof.

Can vouch for this 100%. At the Siegen location, I always find all the hot new bass baits in the clearance section. It’s almost as if they don’t want to carry any of them lol

If you’re old enough to remember, walmarks fishing department went to shite when Sam Walton died. With the bar code system no retailer should run out of stock, academy does on the regular.
IMO, academy makes more $ on shoes and their knock off brands than fishing equipment & tackle.

People post on these threads with whatever gear their using and dont look at the actual information in OP.

It’s what I use across the board on my boat, wade fishing, live lining, jigging, trolling, bottom fishing on rocks or a wreck. I have 2-3 of each set up almost at all time except when wade fishing. I guess sorry for to much info and opinion

When im fishing grouper and big fish on the ledge at 210-410’ on the bottom or 5-10’ off the bottom that drag allows you to pull em out by powering up boat in gear. Landed some absolute tank groupers with 8-12 hooks in his mouth physically tied to the bottom. I can pull all the line holding him down to the rocks/bottom. Regularly do I pull up a tank of a fish with 100-200’ of 40-50’ flouro holding him down.

I’m trying to decide between a NASCI and a Miravel right now. Getting a 1000 size for crappie and was leaning towards Miravel due to it being one of their MGL reels but I keep reading all these awesome reviews on NASCIs so I’m sort of torn between the two
