The hood rats are across the bay. Not sure what your concern is.

I honestly believe all these people recommending small revolvers will have a tough time shoot one at a range at 7 yards

7 yds is well within range of a S&W snub but farther than 10 yds would cause problems. The semi's people are talking about also have accuracy issues at long range. You raise a good point about the trigger pull but that is also a safety feature. The OP needs to take his wife to the range so she can try the trigger pull on a snub and racking the slide back on the tiny semi. I personally carry a Walther PPS M2. Small, light weight and reasonably accurate. Sig and Glock make similar sized single stacks like it that have good reviews. Those are the four i would look at. Maybe a Ruger tiny revolver too.

similarly sized 380

I got my wife the S&W bodyguard 2.0 recently and we both really like it. It shoots .380 which is still plenty enough to get the job done. It's very light, does snap too bad and is just overall good. I'll occasionally throw it in my pocket to do something

My wife is 65

Do you have to be the one to open her Gatorade bottle or the lid on a jar of garlic or pickles? Does she have arthritis? Unless she has man hands, don’t listen to these guys saying they have a flock 43x or LCP max… those are terrible ideas.

She needs a 38spl revolver, or if she’s scared of that level of recoil and flinches, then step down to a 22wmr revolver. Go to a range and you shoot some and decide for her. Don’t let her make the decision.

Around July a man got into it with a store employee at the local Daphne Walmart because he was open carrying. This idiot walks outside and shoots a hole into the wall out front at the Walmart. That kind of stuff doesn’t go on around here. In Mobile you can have a million dollar home and two blocks down there are rough neighborhoods. It’s honestly getting rough out there.

brother... buy your wife some fox labs pepper spray. If your wife doesnt want to carry a gun and isnt practicing pretty regularly I dont think it is the best idea for her to be carrying a pistol around.

That’s truly not the brightest advice I’ve heard in a long time. She works at Providence Hospital off Airport Road. You say the hood rats live across the bay. That’s mostly true. However, a guy shot someone at a convenience store in Daphne and killed him on Hwy 98 next to the Burger King and the Hampton Inn. Last week close to the Daphne Fairhope line a guy about 25 was in the middle of the road walking with no shirt or shoes on and a pistol in his hand and appeared to me to be under the influence of who knows what. Don’t kid yourself, Baldwin County is safe but sometimes you don’t know what you need until you need it.

What specially does she not like about the shield I guess I should ask

I laid my Shield 9mm and the SAR9 on the bed the other day to show her the differences in size. Her one comment was the Shield was still heavy. She is 69.

Yes sir occasionally I do have to open bottles for her. Good point and something I’ve thought about. She had surgery on one of her hands years ago.

Take a look at J Frame S&W Model 36.

That’s why many women, especially older women with weak grip strength, need a revolver.

If she is in fight or flight and needed to clear a jam from a pistol she might not be able to grip it. On the other hand, a revolver, while having less rounds, won’t jam.

KISS is why I think a revolver would be better for my wife.

Definitely take her to a local shop to handle, and check the slide function on a semi auto if that’s what you decide on. SW ez 380 seems like a popular gun but it needs to fit her grip. My daughter is petite and carries a Glock 42 (.380) and loves it

I have a little model 60. It sucks to shoot with the standard grips. I replaced them with some from VZ grips and has helped shooting it tremendously.

The 36 and 60 are both J frames.

I did exactly what you suggested. The SW EZ 380 is the one that she preferred so I bought it. Now it’s off to training school in Mobile. There is a lady over there that specializes in teaching women how to properly utilize the thing.

If going the revolver route & 38 is too much to handle, a s&w 432/632 ultimate carry might be a little easier to shoot & has 1 more round

Hammerless 38 revolver. I’d never recommend carry in a purse though. Too easy to leave, lose or get snatched.

The LCP is snappy but how many times is she actually going to shoot it?

That thing fits in a purse or pocket and she just needs to practice with it and it is the ultimate CC .380 that can get you out of trouble.

It may hurt her wrist, but it will hurt the bad guy more. If you put a 365 in her purse, she may not carry it one day.

Let me know how this works out. I will be taking my wife next week to look at some and go talk to a CC instructor about private lessons.
