You could buy a nice window A/C with that $270. Harbor Freight will take back most anything no questions asked if you want to return it during the warranty.

Thanks....I have a 5500 so I'm not running my A/C nor did I plan to run it. I'll use your procedures after the A/C part....thanks.

Yamaha probably has zero percent on their cards right now.

I like the honda invertors up to 2000. Then the yamaha generators because the warranty is cheaper.

Fried a board in a 5 year old yamaha and yamaha gave me a new generator.

You might be able to depending on the unit. Go read the tag. It should have both the running and starting amps listed on the tag. Figuring out the max starting amps your generator can put out.

If it had a soft starter on it or a badass capacitor on it than it almost definitely could run the central air unit. They dont pull all that much juice to run, you just have to get the damn thing started.

Thanks.....my "plans" never included the A/C because in 19 yrs in FL our longest outage was about 28 hours; so a couple of fans would make life pretty good plus I can run the frig, TV/cable, charge some phones, make a pot of coffee (1st priority first thing in the AM), run the microwave, etc. My Weber has a side burner and I always have an extra tank of propane so I won't have to plug in the stove. I may have to get a longer extension cord for the upright freezer tho....yeah I'll check that this weekend.

I have one of the yellow Champion 3500 watt generators that is probably over 10 years old that cranks 1st pull every time. You can get them for less than $300 all the time. It’s heavy and not very portable but will run forever on a tank.

But if I bought another today...I’d worry more about wattage and portability above brand. Probably a 2000 watt max. I run everything standalone. Never refrigerator and freezer while making a pot of coffee. I want to use as little fuel as possible and would love to have one easy to carry (I’ve moved mine many times to help a neighbor).

A tip I picked up from a forum - use a coffee maker to heat water....as long as you keep pouring water in the tank, it’ll keep putting out hot water.

Have had it for about 4 years. Cranked on the first pull yesterday.

This thread made me decide to go start up my generators. frick generators. If there's another piece of equipment that fails to start more than a generator, I haven't heard of it. They are the mechanical equivalent of trailer lights

KEEP AVGAS OR TRUEFUEL in it for storage and you won't have that problem anymore.

I run one dry and then drain the bowl every 3-6 months. No gas is sitting anywhere. Even the one I have running on natural gas is a PITA. My other equipment is 10-50 years old. Everything starts right up except these assholes

I bought a Honda EM 5000 SX generator a few days after Katrina hit. I've used it several times a year ever since (14 yrs this August). It still cranks 1st couple of pulls every time. I never drain the gas or use special fuels. I shut off the gas and let the carb run dry to shut it down. I am very impressed with Honda generators.

I want to buy a new inverter Honda generator but mine refuses to die.

I changed the outside breaker fuse box to one with a 200 amp disconnect switch (from the power company) and a 50 Amp 250V female plug for the generator input.

I turn off the central A/C and water heater and the generator runs everything else (including a 1 hp water well pump).

Running them dry will still have rust develop in the carb bowl. Dont know what to tell you about the LP generator. First I've ever heard about problems with those.

Appreciate the help, fellas. Unfortunately I was late to the game and this was all they had left. It’ll have to do. Anyone have experience with this one?

I just pulled the trigger on a pair with the parallel kit. My old pro force generator is about to crap out and I've been wanting something quiet and fuel efficient and can run at least a window unit, fridge/freezer, fan, and tv/cable.
