Browning isn't that great. You are paying 1k for a rifle made in Japan.

No. An investment would be a Sako

Tikka T3

definitely this. But caliber depends. I love my 270wsm, but it's not necessary by any means. Probably a 270 or 30-06 just to keep ammo prices down.

Why pay 600-800 for a tikka when the Savage will do everything it can do out of the box for hundreds less?

3-shot MOA guarantee
the savage stocks are truly awful
tikkas have sako cold hammer forged barrels
75deg throw
much slicker action
actions are more consistently spec'd than similar brands' actions

only weakness is the polymer bottom metal and the polymer magazine, but if you get the CTR model, those small things are fixed.

-the attorney that does our gun trusts won a 600yd precision shoot with a stock T3 and a Nightforce NXS.

-one of our very good customers bought a $1800 Kimber Mountain Ascent and went to sight it in. His son smoked him with a Tikka, so the guy is selling the Kimber and buying a Sako 85 Finnlight. it's not the first time this scenario has happened, either. Guys pay more for things like Kimber, then sell it and double dip with us. I can't complain

savages are very easy to do your own work on, which is a nice plus, but as far as what you get for the money, the Tikka is top notch. i know its become trendy for the board to pimp Tikkas, but from selling hundreds of rifles a year, I can say with certainty that it is the best-valued rifle out there. I have guys that come back saying they'll never buy another brand, and we NEVER get them back for repair work. The new T3x's are sick and add some nice touches too. At $619.99 retail for a T3 Blu/Syn, it's a no-brainer.

I'm getting a CTR, myself.

Good lord i know you didn't. Tikka is a superior rifle to A or X bolt, while also being cheaper most of the time.

What is junk about it, exactly?

I have yet to hear one person say they didnt like their Tikka. My first group at 100 was like .6", and i had never shot a group that tight in my life.

It's a ridiculously accurate rifle for under $800. And the action is like butter.
