Live broadcast. Think tunnel vision. Plus I think he waited till the cameraman had the camera back on the reporter. He knew the business and wanted this to be live. Her fiancee worked at the same station. He knew he would see it.

Yeah, I can see me now shooting someone holding a toy weapon because I didn't realize it was part of the news piece.
By the time you know different, they are both likely dead already.
It's part of what makes a police officer's job harder for sure.

I would have yelled GUN. Taken cover and returned fire if fired upon of if he showed intent to fire upon me.
That all glhappened so fast and strangely that it would have been very difficult to process fast enough to have prevented him from killing at least the reporter.

Just crazy that he walks up on them from at least 30ft away while filming, walks around the camera mans back, points his gun once and then lowers the gun, raises the gun again. Not one time did anyone even acknowledge the fact that he was there. Maybe I'm just more aware of my surroundings than these people, but damn I think I would have at least looked up to see someone else on the scene.

You most likely are. I visited my nutionalist today. During my weigh in I said, "This is where I make you feel uncomfortable." During my weigh in I put my cell phone, badge, spare mag, and HOLSTERED WEAPON in a chair so it will not affect my weigh in. What did she notice? "That is a really big cell phone." Yeah it's a Note 3. Never even saw the gun or spare mag. I carry a S&W shield everywhere. Sheep are going to sheep. What can you say?

It's a huge responsibility carrying concealed. Most people think it's something taken lightly.
Something I don't think a lot of people realize about CC, and something I didn't realize myself before taking the CC class, that if one does have to use his/her firearm to terminate a threat to one's self or others, that it is going to cost roughly $10K in legal fees, even if it the act was justifiable. It makes you think twice about pulling you're gun, but your life, and your family's life is worth more than $10K. Getting involved with others is more tricky, and requires a quick reaction, which is why you should always be aware of your surroundings.
Also, the instructors told us after 911 is called, and the cops get there, all you say to the cops is "there is the threat, this is my firearm, and these are the witnesses, I will answer any questions you have 24 hours after I have talked to my lawyer." and that's it. Though I imagine it would be hard to hold your emotions and start just spitting out how everything played out to the cops immediately.

This is only a perceived flaw by people who get to argue about hypothetical situations that don't require proof. The difference in any real life situation is that different people have different perspectives and remember things in different ways. The laws are pretty clear, but you have to sort out the facts and that sorting process isn't always going to end up in favor of the person who thinks that they reasonably believed that they needed to pull the trigger.

That's some great advice from your instructor. I usually advise "I was in fear for my life and I'll speak to you when I've calmed down and I have a lawyer present." It gives you time to collect yourself and prevents you from saying something that could bite you later.

To be fair, reporters who are doing their job generally aren't looking around while filming.
