I always have flagging and bright eyes - never know when you run up on a honey hole and you can flag your way out so you can get back in.
Backpack with:
Sharp knife
Good flashlight
Water bottle and snack
Orange vest and hat
Camo face mask and gloves in case you decide to set up on the ground
Charged phone
Rattling horns and grunt if that's your thang
3 or 4 extra rounds of ammo
Tinks 69
Before cell phones got so good on navigation I carried a Bushnell BackTrack. You could mark the truck and it would point you back to it.
Backpack with:

Are you hunting areas that are near homes, roads, etc within walking distance, or hunting wilderness areas out west in states like Colorado, Wyoming or Montana.
If out west, you will need a real survival kit, because you'll be MILES away from any help.

Compass, whistle, flashlight, fire starter, mosquito repellant with Deet,first aid kit, rope/leather belt/ paracord for tournique and other uses, MRE's, cell phone, a Spot Gen 4, a hunting backpack fitted with a 3L camelback water bladder, pain relievers, knife with sharpener, hatchet, duct tape, poncho, wool clothing/goretex for cold and rainy weather(cotton doesnt insulate when wet), water purification tablets and or straw.

I always keep a small first aid kit in my bag. Also a battery pack for my phone.
My other advice, is to always share your location with your wife, parents, or a friend you trust. Either text them a drop pin, or enable sharing your location on your phone.
I also keep long zip ties, which I use to zip tie branches that I want out of my way, but want to still keep for cover. I use these a lot.

I always have 2 specific headlamps. My main one is a Fenix hm75r, because it has adjustable brightness on the red light. It also has a battery bank on the back to either charge the light, or my phone if I’m in a bind. My backup light is a Fenix hp16r. If the rechargeable battery dies, it can run on 4-AA’s. With that said, I also have at least 4-AA’s in my pack.
I always have a portable battery bank specifically for my phone. I navigate with my phone, and I don’t like being in the dark without a light. So I make damn sure I have a working phone and light.
I bring water in my Grayl bottle, but worst case, I can filter water through it.
And if I’m in the Midwest where I know I won’t have service, I bring my Garmin inreach messenger.
