Both of these will kick your arse. It's embarrassing.
On the same trip, I through into a school with my wacky worm rig. The Bonito would have spooled me if we hadn't chased it. Again, way too small to do me like that.

Of fish that I've caught, I'd say either an AJ or a bonefish. I've never caught a permit.

AJ gets the nod for me, too...

I'd have to give my vote to the Jack Crevalle.

I caught a 2 lb croaker that was 18 inches long that faught harder than any redfish I ever caught lol.
This also should have a forked tail category and full tail because a forked tail will always pull the hardest.

Not a fish but an eel is tough for their size.

Seems like the consensus is the Jack family. I would have to agree.

Hardest fish I ever caught was a 80 pound mahi mahi in the cook islands. But that thing was mf -huge so pound for pound that may not be the answer

much all members of the Jack Family are some bad arse mother frickers at the end of a line. You've also got fish that are wide in that they have a round body and use that to their advantage to increase drag as you try to pull them up i.e. bream, chinquapin, sheepshead, etc. That said, Permit are part of the Jack Family and have that same body type so they can dog you when they're not on a hard run so my vote goes to Permit.

This is true. Permit really know how to use that against you as do all over the.
