Back in my day, Benjamin was the $hit...is that still the case? If not, recommendations?

sky's the limit. How much do you want to spend and what style, pump, co2, etc... What are you shooting?
And if you need quiet, a .22 works better IMO

I have a gamo that literally throws 2 ft groups at 20 yards. I've tried setting the scope and changing ammo. IDK if they are all like that but that's my experience with the one. I bought a crosman break barrel .22 caliber and have had good luck with it.

Very nice....but yea, I don't want to spend more than a couple hundred. lol
I didn't think you could spend that much on a pellet gun....that's pretty out the box.

Any one of the Gamo pellet rifles should work

I’ve got a Gamo that was gifted to me, but there is something about an old Benjamin pump that is just fun. I shoot that more than Gamo.

My experience too, hate that is Gamo is such a poorly shooting air rifle.

Hatsan 125 Sniper Vortex .22. Powerful and accurate. The biggest downside is that it’s on the heavy side.
Also have a .22 Crosman Nitro Venom. Not quite as powerful, but still has plenty of power. Very accurate after broken in. Not as heavy.

I have a Ruger Airhawk.
Pros:
Very powerful
Easy to load with 1 crack.
Fit and finish are pretty nice for a pellet gun
Cons:
Might be tough for a young person to break over
Accuracy is only so-so. Not 2 ft groups like mentioned above but definitely not like my old Benjamin. I could shoot birds at 20 yds with that thing and hit them in the head almost every time.
A tad heavy for a beginner

Take the scope off and try iron sights. Scope is probably toast. Piston air guns do that to scopes not designed specifically for air rifles.

I've been meaning to ask on here about the Ruger air rifles. I saw them at Walmart the other day, package deal with scope on it.
They had 2 different models, I think 1 claimed 1250 fps using the lighter pellets, and the other one was claiming 1050.
I noticed on the box, something about some nitrogen technology something or other.
Know anything about that?
I guess it's like a co2 cartridge,but with nitrogen?

I’ve owned a break barrel gamo and break barrel Benjamin. Not happy with accuracy on either of them. My 40 year old Benjamin pump with iron sights is money. When I was a kid, I was a small game and bird assassin with that thing. Still use it to keep the backyard tree rat population in check. If I was in the market for a new one, I would still find an old Benjamin pump. My .02

I have a 1200 fps break barrel from wally world pretty loud compared to my cheap bolt action marlin 22 with a tube fed mag. I use cci 22 shorts 710 fps. The thing is really quiet and much more accurate than the pellet gun. Roughly $40.00 separates the two.

I have the blackhawk in .177. I use it to thin out the neighborhood squirrels whenever they start becoming a nuisance. It's a good gun for the money. But, for anyone who has never used a "springer" air rifle, they aren't as easy to shoot accurately as other air rifles. They can be very accurate, but you have to learn to shoot them.

These guns, assuming it's a nitro piston, replace the traditional spring with a cylinder of nitrogen which is compressed when the gun is cocked.
One other thing to note with air rifles, is that generally, keeping your bullet slower than the speed of sound will help your accuracy a LOT. Pellets tend to tumble when they break the sound barrier.

Mine is a Daisy 880 Powerline. With BBs, it'll shoot 8" groups at 15 yards. With pellets, it'll shoot 1-2" groups at 15. Was cheap as hell too
