We live in the country in middle Tn, and have a lot of pasture around us, with mixed woods as well as overgrown fence lines.

We have wild turkeys that show themselves regularly. This afternoon, my dog jumped a peacock in a wooded interior of my circular drive. It barely made it to the tree. We could see it plainly, and there is no doubt that it is a female peacock.

There are no farms that raise peacocks within a mile of me.

My wife googled peacocks and turkeys roosting together. It seems it’s not extremely rare for this to happen with a former domestically kept peacock.

Anyone ever hear or experience this?

Funny how it's just accepted to call them "peacocks" when that term only applies to the male.

The proper common name is peafowl.

As for turkeys and peafowl roosting together...I guess it's not impossible, although I'm sure it's rarer than any internet search is going to suggest. Just the fact that there aren't a ton of peafowl running around in places where there are turkeys makes it a rarity.

However, being that both roost in trees, and that both are gregarious species, it's not exactly a stretch to think they would roost together.

I was on a domestic flight the other day and both pilots were female. Would you still call it a cockpit or is there another term that applies to this situation?

According to the Google machine, "cockpit" comes from the word "coxswain", a nautical term for the guy who was in charge of steering the boat. So basically, I don't think it changes regardless of the sex of the person pilotting the vessel/aircraft.

Now, if it did, then what would you call a "cockpit" occupied by two transgenders or binaries? I digress...

Neighbor 4 houses down from me raised peacocks, turkeys, geese, grey chicken looking thingies, and other critters that he let run wild. We also have wild turkeys running around our neighborhood. I never saw the peacocks hanging around the turkeys. The peacocks call is very cool.

His damn geese though would swim down the river and crap all over my river bank. They were mean and would attack if you got too close. My big bad blue tick wouldn't even go near those things so I peppered them with pellets and eventually drove them away.

I don't think peacocks hang out around turkeys. You should put some food out (whole corn) for the peacock and try to keep it around. It's probably domesticated (or was) Those things are great to have around.

Next neighborhood down from me has wild peafowl and they are known for making a ton of noise, fricking up people’s rooftops, and nearly causing accidents. They have gotten into my neighborhood after major storms and it’s insane how loud they are

Do they taste as good as guinea fowl? I’ve heard guineas make great gumbo

I had one at my old hunting club that I routinely saw with a group of 4 gobblers.

When I was growing up, our neighbor had a pair. That's the main thing I remember about them. Sometimes (breeding season I guess) the male would call day and night.

Since several posters gave affirming responses, I guess the google search was correct.

If a male shows up and starts his noise, I’ll be collecting feathers. If I don’t get him my dog will.

Wait and see if he breeds with the turkeys. Could make for some really cool birds to hunt.

Guineas or guineafowl

Point of information: As guineas are loud, obnoxious due to making too much noise, guinea became a derogatory term for Italians.
