Paul is the inventor of these big trout catching baits and a great guy. The YouTube is 10 yrs old and I just watched it. Prior to selling out to mirrolure he manufactured and sold his baits from his home in Houston. After the sale Paul moved to LC building g a house on a tributary off the channel just south of gray wood. He continued to make lures in his shop (peanuts, bug eyes & broke backs) until 3 yrs ago. His son Steve now makes those in Houston.
Paul is now 91 and still going strong.

Bruce came give a talk to us at one of the Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club meetings several years back, talked some history of the Corky and how to fish them and was a wealth of knowledge. I'll have to give this a listen.

I bought dozens of them out of Paul's garage through the years, haven't seen him since he moved. Great to hear he's still getting around good, no other lure has caught more big winter time trout, not in Texas anyway.

Remember the lures being pervasive in Port Mansfield in the mid-80s. People always talking about the guy like a local legend.

Did you know that split rings and hooks were added to the lures by an Asian community in Houston and paid by the piece? Paul went down and got the number of the chief and set it up. He counted every split ring and hook out. Told me he figured all of his lures hooks split rings were not coming back. A week later the chief calls him to pickup and pay. Inside one of the boxes was a note telling him he was short 3 hooks and 2 split rings. Long story I think is pretty cool.

Tip: If you’re storing in a non-A/C location move them to inside house so they don’t get sticky and get a weird green color around the nose.
That podcast could use some editing help. Not to knock the guys and understand probably keeping it cheap until they get some sponsors

Paul said he was 71 in the podcast so it is 10 yrs old. Neither Bruce or Paul have ever mentioned it to me.
I have several boxes of faded fat boys and originals with green on them. Paul told me the plastic is different in each batch which causes some to be slimy.
You can paint them with dye and a Q tip.

I caught my biggest trout on one in Black Lake way back.
What was the bait that looked kind of like a corky except it had a single treble hook up front and a skinny tail off of the back? Was it another type of corky?
eta: found it, it's another Paul Brown bait that his website calls the Devil. Used to tear the trout up on that sucker.
Damn I miss fishing over there. Back in 2007-2010 I'd work at the Global/Technip weld yard when I wasn't in school. Would pull the boat with me to work every day and launch at the employee launch right there off of Global Drive into the Choupique Bayou. It was a short run to Big Lake or Black lake. Fished 3-4 times per week in high school once I got my drivers license. I've been saltwater fishing maybe 10 times in the past 10 years. Sucks.

This is correct. They may do another one with Bruce on his boat/fishing. Should be a good one.
Like you mentioned, the audio could be better but they are just having fun right now. They have a quite a few more episodes in the backlog right now and some of those will be with some true heavy hitters.

Can be a deadly bait, me and a buddy caught 250 trout on the bone color in 2012 the month of February. They wouldn’t touch and original or fat boys in bone just the devil. Of course bone was hard to find so I ordered them from Florida to corpus.

I really enjoyed that video. Titled "Louisiana Legends" and hope to see Paul Brown's workshop. I've always been a fan of Mirrolure top water baits. Some of you need to help me remember a Texas sports writer that wrote some amazing stories of fishing with Corkies in Texas. What was his name?

Was fun to go to Paul’s shop on Friday afternoon and listen to stories, drink a cold beer, get a handful of free lures. Paul’s 80th birthday party was a huge gathering of the best Texas guides every assembled in one spot.
