Hello all,

I’d like to get a Ranger crew to reliably hall people and stuff in and out of remote locations in the woods. I’m set on a 6 seater. Not interested in single cylinder models.

Should I… get a clean used 800xp with accessories like a roof and windshield for $8-10k or a new 1000 for $20k plus accessories? I don’t need fancy or new but if the 800 model isn’t reliable I’m going new. Not considering the 900xp since used prices are too close to new. Primary concerns are reliability and value in that order.

What say the outdoor board?

I did a ton of research on the SxS options out there. Talked to a lot of owners of various flavors and a lot of mechanics. I went with a Honda Pioneer 1000-5 (that supposedly is on its way). And yes, I paid to much, such is the state of most things recreational these days. Trucks, boats, ATV’s….

Do you know the guy that owns the used one?

Hard to find a SxS that hasn’t been used hard. That comes from one of my closest friends that owns a dealership.

Also, if you found a new one in stock, you should have already bought it.
Same friend says they’re around 6-8 months on orders right now.

I’m on my second Ranger Crew. I would buy a Kawi Mule if I had to do it over. My 2020 XP1000 Crew has had electrical issues. It’s left me stranded twice. If I could find a mule in stock I would trade it.

I'm a Ranger owner and this seems to be more and more common on the newer ones. I hate it because it's about time for me to buy another.

I would go Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki if you want reliability.

You will definitely get some opinions here. If the 800 is clean and well maintained I wouldn't hesitate, it's one of the best engines Polaris used

SxS market is at a premium right now, for sure. But I'd get a Mule Pro FXT before the Polaris.

We use Kawasaki six seaters with a Diesel engine. They are great. We have also used the Kubotas, I like them as well but, give the edge to the Kawasaki. Also, the Kubota only seats five.
Never owned a Polaris but, I have friends that have and seems they have a lot of problems.

I just ordered a new Ranger 500. JUst to cruise the neighborhood, do some small stuff around the yard. All we needed. That being said, it's hard to find a good, clean, used sxs. Yes, shite is crazy expensive, but if you can afford it, it's better in the long run. If you know how to work on these things, then maybe used is the way to go.

I had a 2010 Ranger 800 I ran the h3ll out of and had minimal issues. Only thing about the 800's is that the motor is known to run hot. I put a fan over ride switch on it and it solved the problem.

I am running a 2019 1000 crew Northstar. I have 2 friends also running this same unit. None of us have had any problems so far. Hunting over 40 days a year for ducks. Keep a hot battery and service at the end of the year. That’s all I have.

I had a 2019 1000 Crew nice machine, comfortable suspension, not a single issue. Added snorkels a-arms, bracket lift & 32"s made memories in it, chest deep plenty of times.

4Wheeler hit it wide open took out the passenger control arm and bent the frame.

In a 2020 highlifter crew 1000 now. Set up the same way. Low hrs., 345 miles, to early to tell on reliability.

Sank it over the snorkels, winched it to higher ground in the hole. Pulled the drain plug on the clutch housing, took the soak and wet air filter out gave it a few mins cranked it up and dove back to camp. Ran like shite & had to go through a few more deep holes to get it there.

Put the air filter in the generator shed next to the muffler overnight. Put it in the machine in the am, has been perfect since.

The biggest reason I went with Polaris was ride quality.

Good luck

Just put a deposit on a 6 seater mule Ranch edition

Went with the mule after talking to 5 or 6 mechanics in the industry. Hoping the Ranch edition will have better resale

They are selling used for higher than brand new, just because inventory is so low everywhere. I think the Mule Pros have surpassed the Rangers in ride quality.

I owned a Polaris 6 wheeler. It was the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. I would never own another Polaris again. I had every kind of problem you can imagine in less than a year of ownership. I have a honda pioneer 1000 and a john deere gator. Both are much better machines than a Polaris hands down.

I have an early make 900 crew can't remember what was the first year they made the 900 around 2014? Anyway it's held up wonderfully and still going strong with a little maintenance here and there which you would expect on a nine year old bike.

Needed another one a few years back for around the house got a 1000 XP crew it's been great as well we have yet to have a problem with it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I needed one and could find one.
