Speaking of handguards...

So I’ve been shopping for an AR15 for a few months now. Really wanted a BCM RECCE 16 MCMR, but they haven’t been in stock anywhere and no clue when they will become more available.

A week ago, I saw a RECCE 16 QRF go on sale online at a decent price so I immediately jumped on it and bought it, knowing I would replace the quad rail with the MLOK. Came in today and love everything about the gun. But I do want to replace that quad rail pretty soon.

A buddy of mine who knows more about guns than I do also recommended the Midwest industry MLOK. So sounds like it’s top tier handguard in the AR world. Is it the go to brand? How does it compare to the BCM MCMR?

Thanks for the info! Hope everyone had a great XMas.

Built this a few years ago but I’m new to TD. Obviously wish I would have went a different direction but it was built to match a g17 I did. Also wasn’t sure who exactly to respond to so I just responded to the last poster, I’m new to this online forum business.

All right yall, I want to start building a budget AR from an 80% lower, where do I get my stuff? I'm in no big hurry, but I would like to go on and get a lower and start on that. Do the come punched for drilling locations? come with a jig? how do they do that?

80% Arms router jig

Don’t bother with a jig that says you can drill it. They suck.

I have an old Bridgeport Mill and good small vice. I wouldn't be doing it with a cordless drill. If I can indicate the vice in and clamp on the top edge and it looks like a straight parallel edge across the bottom of the trigger guard, and get the lower indicated in nice and flat horizontally, if I can get the holes located properly enough to punch them, I can drill them. The table traverse controls are worn out, but I can still lock it down on the x and y axis. I just need a good way to get it marked accurately. The table just has too much slop in it to be accurate doing it the right way. Once I get lined up though, I can drill just fine straight up and down.

What about the bolt release/lock rocker pin hole? is that one pre- drilled? because that hole looks tricky to do. That detent pin and spring hole for the front hinge pin looks rough too, but you could kind of do without that. Would just have to be careful pushing that pin out.
I wish I had a better mill, it would be a piece of cake.

The only holes to drill are the safety and the trigger pins.

Actually, fixed the forward assist myself. Ordered the part. Used a pair of Klein side cutters and a 12 penny nail to drive the pin.

Works perfectly.

Unless you dare drill the forbidden 1/8" hole of happiness and giggles!

I actually have a question for this thread. My PD rifle is almost complete. One of the last things I want to put on it is a basic flashlight. I have no need for anything related to night vision. Just a flashlight with a momentary on button that I can locate where I need it.

I have no experience whatsoever with these things, so I'm looking for brands to look for and brands to stay away from.

Just bought one of these for my pistol build. It was on sale for $100. 800 lumens, can switch between momentary and constant on and also has a strobe feature. Very light too. Like it so far.

so this isnt an AR question but im looking to get a new rifle. my current one is 30-06 and wonderful. What other calibers should i look at. I want a 6.5 creedmore but where i usually hunt, im hunting relatively small deer, so i was thinking something maybe smaller.

any Ideas?
