Go ahead and free float it and use a rail mounted front right instead of an A2 FSGB. Will save yourself money in the long run.
If it is a matter of $$$ check out the Matrix Arms free float rails. Best bargain in free float rails you can get. Just wished it was MLOK instead of Keymod. Eliminated the need to time the barrel nut so that eliminates a headache of your first build. Also don't need to buy a delta ring assembly and hand guard end cap. If you add up the cost of a delta ring assembly, hand guard, and end cap it really isn't much more for one of the Matrix hand guards.

Chandler hardwood also has them. They also carry a nice low pro gas block that works well with the Matrix handguards that's just $10-11.

Guess thats the same docs for just registering a lower for a SBR?

does anybody know anything about new frontiers 9mm lower? looking at picking one up. 169 for a billet 9mm lower isnt bad.

I think the answer is no but... Can I make my SBR lower a pistol while waiting for my stamp? Or do I need to go buy a cheaper lower and make it a pistol? I've read you can go from pistol to rifle, but not rifle to pistol.

The question will be how the lower was transferred and if it was ever built into a rifle first. If you bought a lower with a buttstock it does not meet the legal definition of a rifle or shotgun and must be transferred as an "other firearm" type receiver on the 4473. You can legally assemble that as a pistol. But if you received a complete rifle or built it into a rifle first you can not legally build it into a pistol is my understanding of the law.

I bought it as a stripped lower... But registered with ATF as a SBR.

Have any of y'all tried KAK shockwave tube? Seems like an incredible way to shoot your "AR pistol"
Posted on 7/13/16 at 10:21 pm to Uncle JackD
I built my first AR pistol with a KAK tube designed to be used with a Shockwave Blade but I used it for a year with just a rubber sleeve instead of a Shockwave. Picked up a Shockwave for $29 from Primary Arms on their 4th of July same. Honestly not sure I like it better than the rubber sleeve I had on it before. But this was set up for 22lr so I might think differently about it in 300blk or 223

The shockwave brace hypothetically feels just as good as a regular stock if I were to hypothetically shoot my CZ scorpion with it hypothetically on my shoulder.

How would the gov't know if you'd done this if you first initial purchase was a a stripped lower?
Also, is that blade stock legal for an AR pistol and won't make the gun a SBR?

Never mind. I did my research on the stock. If you shoulder a stabilizer brace, it's considered an SBR. Period.

Just do it on private property.

If one wants to do a pistol build, do you have to tell the FFL dealer to include that info on the paperwork for purchase? Or does the lower itself say "Pistol" on it?

No.
Stripped lowers (and complete lower halves) come in to and leave the FFL as an "other" firearm. What you do to it later determines what it is. A pistol AR does not have to have the word pistol anywhere on it. It's configuration speaks to what it is. Is 'Pistol' engraved on all of your handguns?
As for pistol to rifle or rifle to pistol I doubt there is anything to really worry about unless someone really wants to get you, in which case you probably have bigger problems.
Example, you buy a used stripped lower off gun broker from a guy who got it from another guy. Your dealer will log it as what is in front of him...an "other" and log it out as an "other". What it started as no one knows and there's no obligation for your dealer to find out (most of the time it would be impossible).
As for the concern from the SBR guy towards building his stripped lower into a pistol. It doesn't matter what you build it into right now. When you change it the gun will be a registered SBR. That trumps the "a pistol can go to a rifle blah blah blah..." those rules don't apply to SBRs.

Fwiw, I don't believe there has been a single case where someone was charged for shouldering a "pistol" arm brace.
The burden of proof is ridiculous

Yeah I'm not worried about that... I'll go shoot on private land. I'm def ordering a shockwave to shoot my new build while waiting on my stamp that will arrive in 2018.

if I wanted to build a 308 on a budget, what components would you suggest.
Posted on 7/14/16 at 11:32 am to nolaks
What's your budget and when you say build do you mean completely assemble it or put the parts in a lower and buy a complete upper?

Unless your budget is at least $1k, it's pretty hard to do.
