Looking at mid 2000sfor the wife. I can get them for half what a recon would run (found an 05 $900 in brand new shape and got my attention). Never run a Kawasaki except one year at a lease in Alabama.

I seem to remember the center of gravity higher than the Honda's.

Thanks.

How would it stand against a 2002 rancher. Would yeah go with the rancher for a bit more $$?
Again it's be the wife's bike. I want one easier for her to turn and use.

Update: Found a 2005 recon 250es for $600. The bayou leaked oil and the rancher was gone. Recon needs a seat cover (I just redid my Rubicon seat so np) gas tank and carb cleaned. Brakes and one rear bearing. I'll do the whole rear while I'm doing the brakes. Thanks for all the help.

I have a1999 220. Can't kill it. Bought it new way back then. I don't use it anymore. Sitting next to my tractor in the back.

In the mud, always use 3rd gear and don't hold back. You will never get stuck.

Not the nicest 4 wheeler but light and easy to handle. If you get it stuck, you can just pick it up and move it. Not the best power but good enough for light mud and using for hunting. Good on gas.

Yes it'll be a lease 4 wheeler for the wife and daughter to ride. Should be enough power for that I'd hope.

Thanks

Not a bad a bike, just go around and the mud hole and not through them.

Would you say go with the recon then for that reason? The wife is not an experienced rider and would need practice with it. The good side is there is not a lot of far areas to go on the lease

Just tell her not to go fast in turns. I liked my Recon much better, but if the price is right

For that price range, you’d be better off finding an old school Honda, either the rancher 350 or maybe even the old school fourtrax 250

We just sold our 2000 rancher ES for $850. I’m 31 now (frick) and it still ran just like it did the day we bought it..

I remember test driving all the bikes back then (2000ish) and the Kawasaki was my dad and i’s LEAST favorite. Just felt cheap.

Go Honda, you won’t regret it

Had a bayou 220 up until about 2012, kick myself in the butt for getting rid of that jewel. That thing couldn’t be stopped. Would sit for a year, give her some juice and would run like a top. If it got stuck, I could get off and rock it out; didn’t need a winch or anything else. Wouldn’t have an issue buying one that old for a beat around bike.

I had a 1991 bayou 220 that we used and abused through our teenage and college years. As said, couldn't kill it. I ended up selling it for $400 when I wanted a newer and bigger one. I shouldn't have sold it. I think it weighed 400lbs, so yeah you could get it unstuck from almost anywhere.

Talking to a guy who wants 1000 for his rancher 2wd. That's my backup plan.

Was, but decided to keep it and rebuild it completely for my grandson. He is 8 now which this bike is way to much for him now. Besides that, he has a high dollar gocart now.

we had 220's as teenagers and they were pretty much indestructable. We still have one that sits in the shed all the time. needs brakes and no one feels like messing with it. i think it's a 2001

I still have a 1992 Bayou 220. Grandpa bought it for me when I was 12. To this day, I have never changed the tires, spark plugs...Nothing. I've changed the oil a hand full of times and the battery and I'd bet my mortgage if I charged the battery today, it would crank right up. Indestructible!

I've had 4 Kawis over the years. Yes a Honda is a better bike, but nothing wrong with a Bayou. Reliable light and enough power to so exactly what you want. I'm looking for a 220 now to upgrade my son soon
