OB electricians... what is this going to cost?

During the storm this morning my neighbor's dead tree fell on my wires, and ripped my meter box off my wall
any idea on what it's going to cost?

Shouldn't cost you anything. Now for your neighbor, probably about $2500.

That exact thing happened to me a few months ago and it cost me around 800 bucks. I had to have a new box and wires rerun. You may need some actual work done to your house so may be more. At minimum be ready to pay your home insurance deductible.

How do I go about getting their insurance involved? I'm a first time home owner, so don't know much about home owners insurance.

Walk over and ask them who they have insurance with. Then ask if they want to call or if you need too.
ETA: your insurance may talk to them for you

I would talk to my own insurance company. They may go ahead and pay for it to be repaired and then go after the other insurance company.
Wickowick could prolly answer that for you better than anyone.

Call Morris Bart
Seriously, though, maybe call your agent and get them to do it for you or at least give you some pointers.

Ask your nighbor for his HO insurer and policy number. Call the company and open a claim to get the ball rolling.
If his will not cover it, call yours.

Your own homeowners insurance will pay for the repair, minus your deductible. The insurance companies prefer to cover their own clients, rather than going after the neighbor's policy, because both companies know that's in their best interest long term. The companies know that the big payouts come from excessive and fraudulent or borderline fraudulent claims against them from outsiders, not from their own policy holders.

Makes this an interesting insurance claim. Basically what i'm getting at is this is negligence. I'm not 100% sure his policy would cover this since the insured was negligent in having tree removed (assuming they realize this). Your company should pay but sucks... I'd make him pay your deductible or some shite or sue the shite out of him.

It will be easier just to contact your ins provider and tell them everything. If they decide to go after the other homeowner or his insurance company then that's their deal. I couldn't speak to how much it would cost, because I've always been friends with electricians so most of the work on my house and shop have been for a case of beer and a few bucks.

You're responsible for your own repairs. It considered an "act of God". At least that's what I have been told by insurance companies in the past.

Here's the picture of the tree. I'm a dumbass because I knew I should have made a point to get it out, but I didn't and now it has come back to bite me
If you look behind the oak to the top you can see where it broke off.

The other homeowner should pay for the repairs because it was his negligence that caused the tree to fall during the storm. However, it will be in your best interest to have the repairs made and seek reimbursement.

If it was dead, dead you can try to get the neighbor's insurance companies info and file a liability claim against them

Make sure that you get a licensed electrician to do it... Most likely with have to have a permit and inspection for the power company to turn it back on depending on where you live

Entergy is coming out now, and I guess going to inspect everything. Luckily, my friend is an electrician, but I'm still not sure how much he is going to charge me

The not removing of a dead tree is negligence though. Different than healthy tree falling during act of god.

The chances are very slim that it will be worth it to file an insurance claim on your homeowners. If you can file a liability claim through their insurance then go that route.
