So up to 5 does and a decent buck for $2500? I hunt 30 minutes south of you and pay more than that with zero guarantees what do you consider a trophy and management buck on your place?
The idea is that it is a very good value. That usually will precipitate a good time for everyone. I have been on expensive hunts. And it seems like people are really stressed out. Which pretty much defeats the purpose.
As for trophy status: I think it is in the eye of the beholder. We don't have any hard and fast rules. If a deer makes someone happy, we tell them to put the hammer down.
We have so many kids, wives, novice hunters, politicians, etc who come hunt with us. It's impossible to be strict about it. We want everyone to enjoy themselves.
For my and my immediate family, we try to focus on age. We shoot the old ones and let the young ones walk. If a deer is old and has a scrawny rack, or is a 7pt or something like that, the we encourage someone to shoot it. We dont have a "management" criteria
But really, it just depends on what makes the hunter happy.
If there's on thing I have learned: Big deer are like beautiful women. If one gets away, sit tight and another one will come along shortly. There's plenty of them out there.

man I wish I'd seen this thread sooner. If you decide to do this next year post it earlier and I'm sure several guys would be all over it!

No fine for a button. Mistakes happen...
