A new legal filing by the powerful gun group against the state of New York paints a grim picture

The National Rifle Association warns that it is in grave financial jeopardy, according to a recent court filing obtained by Rolling Stone, and that it could soon “be unable to exist… or pursue its advocacy mission.” (Read the NRA’s legal complaint at the bottom of this story.)

The reason, according to the NRA filing, is not its deep entanglement with alleged Russian agents like Maria Butina. Instead, the gun group has been suing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state’s financial regulators since May, claiming the NRA has been subject to a state-led “blacklisting campaign” that has inflicted “tens of millions of dollars in damages.”

In the new document — an amended complaint filed in U.S. District Court in late July — the NRA says it cannot access financial services essential to its operations and is facing “irrecoverable loss and irreparable harm.”

Specifically, the NRA warns that it has lost insurance coverage — endangering day-to-day operations. “Insurance coverage is necessary for the NRA to continue its existence,” the complaint reads. Without general liability coverage, it adds, the “NRA cannot maintain its physical premises, convene off-site meetings and events, operate educational programs … or hold rallies, conventions and assemblies.”

"
The NRA’s inability to obtain insurance in connection with media liability raises risks that are especially acute; if insurers remain afraid to transact with the NRA, there is a substantial risk that NRATV will be forced to cease operating.” The group also warns it “could be forced to cease circulation of various print publications and magazines.” ...

I got a letter in the mail from the NRA a few weeks ago (right after all of the Florida stuff) lecturing me as to how various special interest groups were attacking my rights. The word "attack" was used probably 50 times in various ways, and bolded/underlined every single time. It was difficult not to laugh.

Still got my guns

So they sued themselves into financial trouble. Impressive.

My God you are a brainless moron if you actually believed there is any truth in what the Rolling Stone has concluded here. Nowhere in that 45-page complaint does it mention that the NRA itself is in financial trouble. As is common with any lawsuit where the complaintant has to assert they are suffering damages or the potential for damages by the action of the defendants, they are using common legal language in demonstrating such harm to the judge in order to effect an immediate response. The NRA states that its existence as a non-profit entity is tied to procuring liability insurance which is true of all non-profit entities. Nothing dramatic or hyperbolic, simply a statement of fact and is being used to assert one the potential damages by the actions of the defendents. Some seriously low IQ hack work by the Rolling Stone and not surprised that some will bite without actually reading the document in question and use their own critical thinking skills.

Whether true or not, the lobbyist paid by firearm manufacturers are probably a lot more important to assuring legislation will be favorable to gun owners.

Guys...seriously? This is language the Rolling Stone just took out of the NRA’s complaint. It’s not a big deal, every complaint I’ve ever seen or written is done with the same dramatic bullshite.

Regardless of whether it's true, or not, people on this board like guns. Just thought NRA supporters, and detractors, would like to read it. I did a Google (News) search for "NRA New York Lawsuit", and every article about it cited Rolling Stone for the info about the suit. That made me think it was the best article to use.
