I'm a long-time annual member of the NRA and I try to pay one year ahead of my membership renewal. About ten days ago I get the usual membership promo, pay next year's dues now at $40.00 and save $5.00. also get a hat (which I give away)
so, I cut the check for $40.00 and send it.
Well, today I get another promo letter. This one says pay now at $30.00 and save $15.00 off the normal $45.00 fee. I really don't care about the price drop, but it does lead me to think they may be having membership recruiting problems.
Anybody else get this promo letter?

I haven't been an NRA member for a LONG time. They don't represent all gun owners.

So what gun rights groups are you donating to now?

The website cannot find my NRA member number even though it is on the reminder/promo and input exactly as it appears. Oh well.

I’ve seen some emails offering $15 off for renewal the past couple of months. I don’t usually look too hard at the mail though.

Many years ago, when life membership was $500, they had a special offer where a life member could nominate a friend who would have to pay only $300. I took that deal, then told them to send me the American Rifleman magazine only (no junk mail begging for money), and it's been a great bargain.

As long as Wayne LaPierre is there, my membership will continue to be inactive

I am a life member, but will not donate a penny to them until LaPierre is gone. I now donate to Gun Owners of America, Second Amendment Foundation, and a couple of others I can’t think of at the moment.

I think the straw was when they endorsed Harry Reid and after I was able to get business insurance through another insurer.

Been a life member now 20yrs and pay no annual dues and never miss a magazine and their gun insurance is customer oriented. Got a nice leather bomber coat to become life member. Already recovered the cost of membership. Might have even be tax deductible.

I do the same thing...

The only organization that sends more than the NRA is Judicial Watch - i get something almost every day from them.

Same. I send my few extra dollars to GOA. They are the first to oppose any gun control measure, not just in word, but by filing suit and fighting for the 2A. The NRA is in large part silent on these matters. I also have a NAGR (Natl Assoc for Gun Rights) membership.

I've been a life member for over 20 years. Now, like most folks, I wish I hadn't done so, and won't be sending a penny to them until they get back to their roots.

The NRA isn’t perfect and is in dire need of an overhaul, but they still do some good and have a lot of potential. If you can only afford to donate to one group, it should be something other than the NRA, but we need all the help we can get when it comes to Gun rights.

One thing about the NRA too is they offer a lot when it comes to education when it comes to firearms, which is something that isn’t getting any better. Although, I believe they have cut funding for a lot of those programs due to their financial problems.

I think it’s still worth the annual membership, but I completely understand cutting ties with the NRA. I just hope the people that do are supporting other groups like GOA instead.
