Buffalo gnats are crazy bad right now, and most sprays just attract them. Not much will work on them, I have one cream that actually works for a little while, but then they are back. They are attracted to carbon dioxide, so have to keep a buff on to protect my face in slack water. They aren’t good flyers, so windy areas offer some protection. Keeping your skin covered with clothing is a must in some areas. I found Off and skin so soft just attract then. Again, one thick cream I have, says it keeps the black flies away, actually works, says it has deet in it, but I’ve used deet and the permethrin with poor results. I think the thick cream works as a barrier for them, and that’s why it works, cause they don’t bite threw clothing and my facial buff is good at keeping them from attacking my face. The worst think is when there are so many that you breathe them in your lungs and have to cough them out. Someone told me vanilla extract works, just haven’t tried it yet, but that may be next on my list..

I’ve tried them all but for the last few years have been using 1/2 Mexican vanilla and water. Go to a Mexican store and they have huge bottles cheap. I buy the one that’s abt the size of a whiskey bottle for abt $9.00. Tried Marsh Romance the other day in Cocodrie and it seemed to work pretty well but damn my skin smelled like it for 2 days and my truck for a week.

Deet works decent for me but I'm more interested in killing them so I don't have to lather in that stuff every time I go out.

Last night, I went out and sprayed Bifen IT all under shrubs and treated the eaves of the house etc.

When I got to my firewood pile, a shite ton of mosquitoes swarmed out. Stupidily, in a fit of insect hate rage I started spraying those effers everywhere and got bifen all over my woodpile.

I don't plan on burning that wood until probably at least November. Think it will be ok or is it no forever unsafe?

Found on a pest control chemical website :

John from Stapleton, Al writes

I've just cut and split firewood and I've discovered powder post beetles have already fount it. It will be at least 7 months before the wood will be handled. Can Bifen IT be sprayed on the firewood?
Answer:
We would not recommend using Bifen IT on firewood. We recommend only using a product that is labeled for that. Please contact your Local Cooperative Extension Office to advice on what would be safe to use.

Men, this is serious. I need confirmation that the above scent works great as a mosquito repellant.

Don't let me down, OB

All the other suggestions might work but I've always used Avon skin So Soft and it's absolutely effective.

Flying teeth...the bane of mankind. Damned things chew instead of injecting like normal bug. Cigar smoke works. At least around the face...around the ankles and wrists I ain't ever found anything that works.

Late 80's scout camp, entire property smelled like skin so soft.

Supposedly an Avon Lady in North Augusta, SC made several million dollars from the time units 1 and 2 broke ground at Vogtle Nuclear Plant in Waynesboro, Georgia and they went on line. She had the territory and was the only source, at the time, for Skin So Soft. The Southern Company and their subs bought it by the truck loads. This was the late 70s and early 80s. Mostly gnats...so thick it will choke you from March through November. Skin So Soft works...

I think it was OFF but someone used to make a thing you wore around your neck that had a pad in it that you could soak with skin so soft. Supposedly drier sheets would also work...

Years ago I fished Lake Comedero in Mexico several times. The first day there I wore a short sleeve shirt. No see ums ate me up. I had red bumps on my arms that itched like crazy for three weeks.

Never again did I fish any lake in Mexico with a short sleeve shirt.

Works great and we never fish the coast without it. My wife knew about it before I did as her brother and dad used it long before I started salt-water fishing. Make sure your wife knows about it before you go!

Ocean Springs is the gnat capital of America. 2 weeks in the fall and spring you can’t go outside. The only think I found that worked is this granula product that smells like pickles. They can’t stand it, you could literally see them hauling arse as it left the spreader. It doesn’t kill them it just drives them away and it last for 3 to 4 weeks depending upon the rain

Spray your yard with the triazacide by spectracide from Lowe’s it hooks right up to your hose and you can sit in your yard the next day with little to not issues.
