Have a Bad Boy. Only about 70 hours on it. No problems with it. 60" cut that I paid $4500 for. I think it will last a long time. Built heavy and solid. I am sure some parts will need replacing over time.

Same mower is selling at $4700 in Woodville. Check craigslist.

Oh, cutting about 5 ac with it now. Some of that I put off for two weeks and the grass gets high. No problem there.

I think you completely missed the point... The point is in knowledge of the product, not in manufacturing the thing LOL.

Sorry I wasn’t clear on that. Thought it would’ve been implied.

Engineers don't manufacture things.

Again, I thinkni know what you're trying to say, but you're not saying it.

Your feelings on JD mowers are just over the top positive, doesn't seem very objective. Especially when there are others in here that have in depth knowledge of other products and can give advice from first hand experience.

Lol... my first-hand knowledge is more (way more) than you know. I don’t know why you are nit-picking on everything I say, but whatever. It’s easy to comparative shop, and I’m just saying my opinion (my informed opinion), because I’ve seen and know way more than just one or two cases of different makes and models of most mowers and small equipment. From what I’ve seen, Deere has been putting out the best all-around z in the past few years. If you got a problem with that, then state your reasons instead of resorting to discrediting me with slander.

I'm not really nit-picking. Saying a JD mechanic is like the the engineer who designed it is a terrible analogy, at best.

I don't know what your experience is. However, your first post read like an article in Car and Driver, basically you sound like a cheerleader. I don't think that's typical of someone who is honestly in the know.

What threads like these show (similar with truck threads) is that there are a lot of very good brands out there and to state one is absolutely better than the others is probably false.

Slander... That's laughable. But as you've shown, communicating clearly is not really your strong suit.

Find a good dealer first. That's the guy you'll be seeing when it breaks and they all break. Look at what the manufacturer is giving as their standard warranty. Those who give longer warranties are willing to put their neck on the line for longer which means it's probably built better. I have a family member who runs a tractor dealership that sells the tractor brand zero turn. Most tractor dealers do not want to deal with mowers because tractor's are their priority and make them more money.

I stopped and looked at some Bad Boys and Spartans today.

The Spartan had a 7 gauge steel deck, Parker 12cc Transmission, Four Bearing SPindles, Adjustable drive arms, a very comfy floating seat system, and radial tires. 6" deep deck build like a tank.

I think I have sold myself on this machine

This is false in my opinion.. been using a 62” bad boy for many many years and haven’t done more than routine maintenance and a few belt changes

I love my bad boy, I think they’re tremendously underrated

Yawn.... ok. Sure bud. You got me good.

Anyway, to OP... do your due diligence on comparative shopping and don’t look at paint, look at overall product value and consider the things I’ve and others have mentioned.

For my opinion, again, I believe DEERE offers best overall product value, and stated my reasons why.

Hope you find years of value in whichever product you choose.

I can't recommend Gravely highly enough. In La I had 5 acres to mow so I got a 48" commercial Gravely and it ran like new till the day I traded it for a RZR 8 years later. Moved to TN with the 48" Gravely but needed a bigger deck to cut more acreage, so I found a 72" Gravely used with 300 hours on it and clean. I've had it for 3 years and never a problem. That's 11 years of Gravely and I've only ever changed the oil and sharpened the blades.

I don't know about their residential line, but the commercial line is legit. I'd get a clean one with low hours and save a few thousand dollars.

That's fine, but why bother when you can buy from manufacturers that has been producing the best products for the last 20 or 30 years.

How many hours you got on a worn out 6yo mower?

Whats your budget?

I have a 8 yo Ferris with the Yanmar diesel on it. Still runs like brand new. Its the commercial grade and was $10k
