Need 3 or 4 new rods for trout/redfish fishing. Have used Falcon mostly in the past. Any other recs?

I’m kinda stuck on the Falcon coastal series.

Falcons are great rods for the price. I'd look at ALX, Waterloo, St croix, kistler, cashion, edge and grandt rods, sarge customs get a good rep too.

I'm looking forward to trying out the kistler dock skipper as my next lightweight rod.

The best rod I have fished with (I didn't own it) was a G-Loomis. EX6 I think. Those are far to pricey for normal people to afford, IMO. As the others say, I think the best bang for the buck is the Falcon.

Castaway Taranis is my favorite right now.

I still fish with ugly stiks or whatever the brand that came with my combo for the Penn Battle III. I do get in the water though…

I used falcon coastal in the past, but I’ve broke a few recently. I replaced them with Okuma DTR rods that I have been very happy with.

Just bought two Okuma DTR rods for popping corks. Puglias is running a little sale on them. Falcon Coastals are solid. If I wanted to spend more I'd look at the inshore Shimano Teramars

Budget?

Under $100, stick with falcon or St croix Triumph rods

Have $200 to spend? Look at the G Loomis E6X, TFO tacticals, St croix premier, Bull Bay rods… theres a lot of good rods in the $100-200 range

Want to try a higher end rod to see what the fuss is about? I picked up a St. Croix Legend Xtreme a couple years ago and after 2 trips added a second. They are pricey (used to be $350, but now are $600… yikes!) but I’ve debated selling a number of my other rods just to buy one or two more of the xtremes. Super sensitive, lightweight, lifetime warranty… my favorite rods to fish wish nowadays.

Budget

Yeah budget is a big factor. Also spinning vs casting.

Kistler $250+: their jerkbait rod would be a great multipurpose inshore rod
Shimano GLF $100
Waterloo $160+
Castaway Skeleton Nano $130

I'd pick my budget and then pick one of those. If you can tell us budget, casting vs spinning, and what lures you're throwing we can make more specific recommendations on exact models.

Also the Okuma DTR someone else mentioned can often be found on great discount and are worth a look.

Probably not a popular opinion, but my salt stuff tends to take a bigger beating than my fresh, and I fish way fewer techniques, so I am not paying ALX etc ish prices for my salt stuff . I did end up with some quality stuff though by finding a listing for a couple Major Craft rods for cheap. Not as well known as things like Megabass, so they went cheap.

In my experience with surf fishing rods and reels as well as a freshwater reel, Okuma may be about as good a bang for the buck I have used. And it is not unusual to find them discounted. Okuma seems to much more popular along the west coast, based on what I've seen online.

Really like these. I just make sure to get all my rods from academy, so I can return with no questions asked. I break a lot of rods on everything but fish...

I agree completely. I have my bass arsenal of 15ish combos full of kistler, shimano expride, daiwa blx, etc... and then my salt stuff is 3 or 4 rods, some just older bass gear and some saltwater specific that I caught on sale (TFO GIS inshore, older green label Castaway, older model shimanos, etc...) and they're paired with reels I don't mind if they get beat up like a Calucutta 200B, Daiwa Coastal Inshore Special 153H, etc...

There are a few occasions where I'll bring the bass gear to the marsh, specifically targeting light biting winter trout on the bottom.

Anyone have experience with their spinning reels? Looking at picking up a couple Epixors or ITXs to go on the DTR rods I bought

Buddy of mine has one. He likes it better than my cheaper pflueger president.

I own 6 of their low profile line counter bait casters. Great value for the buck.

Okuma rods are everywhere around my parts. I own 8 of their rods.

Up until covid, dealing with their warranty dept was quick and easy. Like everyone else currently it's a pain. Which sucks because I snapped 1 tip last weekend and I really need a replacement so I'm not switching the gear on another rod twice a day coming up for salmon.
