So with the tarpon rodeo right around the corner I was wondering how this was going to go with the new police force on the island.. I saw more people pulled over this past weekend than I have in the past ten years combined. It was state troopers and Jpso. I was in shurway and a lady was geting wrote a ticket in the parking lot. I asked the guy checking me out if this was happening a lot now and he just laughed and said "yeah like everyday someone is getting a ticket out there". He said they were pulling over anyone going over more that 5 mph. His words "they are going to lose there shite during the rodeo". So would anyone be surprised if they brought the drunk tank and set up a dwi checkpoint right infront of Artie's?

I wonder how much they are looking at the local population. It seems that is where the corruption is, not the tourist visiting fueling there whole economy

I'm not worried about me I'm just thinking it's going to be bad for the rodeo and the island as a whole if they start ticketing people on the island.

I haven't noticed any difference. The grandillions I'm friends with know and like the new police chief. Some of the Tarpon Rodeo bullshite needs to be cracked down on IMO anyway. I'm not talking about the action at the marina but the young spring breaker type bullshite that gets unsafe.

was there all weekend, saw a few JPSO officers but nothing out the normal. id rather sit at brisgeside and watch people launch and load boats. that's free entertainment.

Went a few weeks ago and JPSO was HEAVY. Don't break the law and you should be fine.

most of the JPSO are gone now that the new chief started. I did see a state trooper pull someone over. Troopers are not down there that often. But to me its a good thing to see. There is a reason there are speed limits and all the damn kids on carts on the road needs to stop.

He said they were pulling over anyone going over more that 5 mph

lie

I wonder how much they are looking at the local population. It seems that is where the corruption is, not the tourist visiting fueling there whole economy

Do tell us oh grand poobah of Grand Isle of all the corruption of the local populace, and do not confuse the local populace with elected officials. Also please tell me about how tourism fuels the island economy. Please provide statistical analysis of the amount of residents, their jobs, and how many of them "depend" on tourism.

Also, I talked to the trooper who was patrolling this weekend yesterday. He told me in a two hour period he wrote 12 tickets. All tourists going wayyyyy over the speed limit. He gave me this example.

Trooper: sir how long have you been coming down to grand isle

Guy: I been coming down here 20 years at least. What is the problem officer?

Trooper: well you were doing 45 mph, that's why I asked you how long you been coming here. you should know better.

Guy: I don't understand what's the problem? I always have done 45 right here.

Trooper: Problem? This is a 25 mph zone. That is the problem.

That's the type of stuff that is getting written up. Not 5 mph over the speed limit.

Can they write tickets for people doing 25 in the 45 ? It's starting to become an epicdemic.

34 likes to go between Sanddollar and Artie's, unless there's a foam party at Oasis.

I get it, island time. But when I just get to the island, after driving in from the city, it drives me nuts. Just want to get in the camp and shift into island mode.
