just always get a chuckle when I see guys take a 7mm or .300 win mag to the stand to roll a 110lb doe at 85 yards
I’ve been using a .300WBY since 1990, haven’t ever had to look for a deer, they have all seemed to fall right where they were shot. Go figure…

The cool kids are Elk and Grizzer bear hunting with .223's these days.

That is ridiculous and dangerous advice. Everyone knows that the correct answer for Elk, Grizzly or even Cape Buffalo is 6.5 Creedmoor.....

have looked into a 7mm prc
Great round but if you reload you can make it really shine. I'd guess it's pretty easy to find ammo for on the shelves now but if anything like COVID happens again, you won't be able to find it.
The perfect SE whitetail gun to me is just what Rize said.
16-18" barrel in .308 with a silencer.
I have one in a bolt action and one in an AR. I'm not the biggest of deer hunters but have taken enough and either of those in a box blind is money.
And you will always be able to find ammo for it.

Bergara B-14 in .308, 6.5, or 7mm PRC....w/ a suppressor (most important part IMO besides the scope)

man, a few years ago most of the responses on this board would have said 7mm-08.
Whitetail aren't hard to kill. Pick your favorite non-magnum in the 6-7.62mm range, pair it with an appropriate bullet (don't overlook this step) and rock on.
Avoid the temptation to get some giant cartridge for the elk trip you're never going to take. Elk die just fine from non-magnum calibers. Bullets and shot placement matter way more than headstamps.
Tikka is hard to beat at their price point but lots of great options out there these days.

Back before the great 7mm-08 ammo shortage of 2021-2022

A tikka superlite or xbolt speed in 7 prc sounds miserable. If you’re dead set on getting that cartridge then get a rifle with a little more arse. No matter how good you think you are you’re not going to shoot a 6lb magnum anywhere near as good as you could a rifle with a few extra pounds.

pleasant shooting, accurate, effective deer rifles are in abundance these days.
Last year was my first experience shooting deer with a suppressed rifle, and I could never go back. The rifle I used was a .300 WM, so with a can it was pretty long and cumbersome in the stand.
I decided to look for an inexpensive rifle with a short barrel in an easy shooting caliber with ammo easy to find.
I ended up going with a Savage Axis II Pro in 6.5 CM. Picked it up for about $400, put a Burris 3-15x scope and Omega 300 on it, and set it up to shoot Federal Premium Terminal Ascent ammo. The gun loves the ammo, grouping them well off the bench, and they are consistent with the ballistics provided for shooting out to longer distances. They also penetrate very well, creating a very good exit wound.
I'm not sure I'll ever hunt whitetails with anything else.

I have the Christensen 7prc FFT with a silencer and I love it. Pretty much can kill anything writhing 350yrds with ease. I recommend the caliber. Only have 3 deer kills and a few hogs so far but tracking has not been a problem as 2 have dropped and the others haven’t made it far. I use the Hornady hunting round.

Grow up and use a bow.

Not many hunters ever shoot a target past 100 yards,
Yep, and my longest shots in the field were about 120 yards at this one stand in Arkansas. My current place has a longest possible shot of 90 yards and most are taken under 70 yards. I really could have killed every deer I've killed with my 44 magnum rifle.

Lots of inexpensive, accurate rifles out. And deer ain't hard to kill. So I would go with cheapest most readily available caliber.

OP, an old-timer once told me that "next to a squirrel, a deer is the toughest animal in the woods to kill."
The old guy appeared to be sober when he made that statement.
With that sage advice in mind, I recommend a 375 HH for your deer rifle.
