Of the brands you mentioned, I’d go Sig.

Sig makes good stuff but they have a lot of propriety parts on their AR’s. I wouldn’t buy for that reason.

Gas block I haven’t done.

I used the ruger elite 452 trigger. Like it very much.

Doesn't have to be a new design to be a solid rifle. I am not arguing Colt is the best, Colt is the most innovative, Colt is anything other than a solid choice for the money when it comes to their AR15's.

Surefire Warcomp Flash hider for the Surefire 556 suppressor

Warcomp sucks as a suppressor host. It doesnt have the labyrinth seals so it has a lot of gas leakage. It makes the gun a lot louder. Switch to the three prong flash hider for better performance.

and decent trigger.

I'd just plan on swapping out the trigger if that's a factor. If you want to pay $1300 for an AR it doesn't make much sense not to use an aftermarket trigger.

As for what's "better" and what will out perform another brand, now that most garbage manufacturers have been weeded out 99% of it is bullshite and people are paying for rollmarks. It's an open source design and not very complicated and any decent manufacturer can make one with the proper materials, anodizing and tolerances. Usually the increased price isn't for functionality, it's for matched upper/lower sets with perfect anodization and no play and attention to detail on assembly, which you can probably do as well as a mass producer if you have any mechanical sense. I have no problem with boutique guns but frequently the only thing that's "better" about them is cosmetics, not how they shoot.

If you want a chrome-lined barrel you're not going for super accurate, so looks aside you're really just looking for reliability and the right configuration. Find a reputable manufacturer that makes the configuration you want, upgrade the trigger and shoot it.

Come on, you might see a 1/4 moa difference between chrome lining and thermochemical treatment on equal barrels when new but over the lifetime of the barrel the chrome lined barrel is going to stay more consistent and will last much longer.

Honestly going either way is fine for the vast majority of people but chrome lined barrels can still be super accurate and precise.

People get hung up on chrome line vs non. The fact is in earlier days of the AR chrome line barrels were less accurate but improved manufacturing processes it’s less of a factor now.

98% of shooters will never come close to shooting out a barrel. Also most of major manufacturers make barrels that are accurate and can hit a human target at 300 meters with an average shooter.

I have a Stag that I bought about 6 years ago for $750 and it’s a beast. No idea what that gun runs these days but it’s been a great gun for me.

I didn't say it turned it into an AK, I just said accuracy isn't driving the bus if you want chrome lined. I have chrome lined, I have stainless, I have nitrided barrels, and I like all of them, but they have different purposes. A true MOA AR isn't as common as people think (or claim) and people wanting to prioritize accuracy don't want to leave .25 MOA on the table just because the military uses chrome lined barrels.

Unless it's going on a machine gun chrome isn't going to last much longer than nitride, if at all.

Springfield Saint Sig M400 IWI and Maybe a Stag Arms

Just bought a M400 for 500 bucks. Guy needed money. Flipped it for 1050 bucks 20 mins later. Had a nice Sig Tango 4 on it.

I would look at the Wilson Combat. Great guns.

Rock River Arms (not Rock Island) is severely underrated in the AR market. A lot of government agencies use them because they are solid and dependable: DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals, etc.

They make really really good ARs and they are priced pretty damn good too.

Man, during the old days of ARs when the AWB just lifted (2004-07 ish) RRA was considered a top of the line civilian AR.

LMT used to make their lowers, I think, and they were basically viewed as a great alternative to Colt.

Eagle Arms, Armalite, and Sabre Defence were also extremely highly regarded. Man, how that market has changed.

Sabre Defence

My first SBR in 2008 had a Sabre Defense 11 inch barrel. Their barrels were considered some of the best at the time. Many SF teams used them. Dumbass owner got caught selling machine guns out of his trunk and company folded. I put 10K rounds through that barrel. Finally switched it out with a Noveske QCB.

They were hard as hell to get back then. Rifle Gear in Cali had 10 in stock. I should have bought 5 of them but they were $400 each at the time.

If you want something a little unique, take a look at the WWSD rifle through Brownells. Insanely light.

Couldn't agree with you more. Most people don't understand that this is a mil-spec weapons system. Most people scoff at the cheaper brands on here, but if you have ever put one together before you can overcome the QC deficiencies they might have.

Good comment. Seems a lot of the premium associated with higher priced rifles is the assurance that you can take it out of the box, oil it, and not have to worry about function issues. But if you get a "budget" rifle, inspect it thoroughly, upgrade it where it counts, and run it for a bit, you can ultimately end up with a system that's just as reliable and as accurate (and the vast majority of people won't be able to outshoot the rifle anyway).

For every PSA with a loose castle nut or handguard screw there are probably 100 like this: LINK
