I have a nice gas Jonsored but this thing is legit for cutting deadfall.

Very handy hatchet for $25, you can get it for $20 a couple times a year.

I've also has a lot of luck cutting small stuff with a sportsman pal. It's done better for me than any machete I've ever used.

Not exactly what the OP is looking for, but I picked up this Condor machete the other day. It's bad to the bone.

Best deal for a versatile ax is 26" version from Husqvarna. Hand forged in Sweden and come properly sharpened right out of the box. Picked up mine last year for under $70 on Amazon. Out chops an Estwing by miles.

While Gerber is owned by Fiscar, I don't think they are the same. I am pretty sure all Fiscar is made in Finland or Sweden or wherever they are from and Gerber is probably made in China.

Another vote for estwing. I have a newer hatchet and camp axe. The axe is awesome. Also have a hatchet that is older than my dad and is still going strong.

Council tool, made in USA. I'm fixing to order one myself. I have a 2.5 lb snow and Neely that's a nice little axe, just too short of a handle for me, but it's perfect to keep in the tool box.

For a machete, I like the 12" Ontario with orange handle with hand guard. Had one in my hand all day today. Also US Made.

I've pretty much settled on this one: LINK /

Ebay. Get a used axe. There is no good reason to buy one new.

For the win in the OP's scenario. I keep a boys axe in my toolbox, and a big arse double head in my shop.

Drinking and burning require the dewalt xrp though.

that's what I use for deadfall and I have a ton of deadfall from old laurel oaks and pecan
I'll never swing an axe or blade again for that
makita makes an 18v one that uses the same batteries as my impact
