12 gauge semi automatic is what I'm looking for.

Price range is what I'm struggling with. I'm an avid hunter, but I am just getting into duck hunting. I plan on making it more of a hobby. I feel comfortable spending up to and around 1000. However, if I can get a damn good shotgun for cheaper...im all about that.

Thanks for any help

Beretta A300 Outlander. Should be able to find one in the $600-800 price range depending on which one you want. Shoots up to 3", but that's all you need.

I found a used beretta xtrema 6-7 yrs ago in mint condition for $1000. Was at a big gun shop in Atlanta. Just have to look around. No need to spend a lot of money unless you just want to. Plenty of good guns for $500-$1000. How much are you actually going to use it? Some ppl put thousands of rounds thru their guns between different types of hunting and clays. Some ppl just run 10-15 boxes thru them every yr. Get one that fits you well.

Beretta A300 Outlander

Got a buddy sitting next to me. Asked him the same question I posted here and he was spitting out more names than what I could keep up with.

Asked him about the Beretta A300 Outlander, and he said it's a hell of a gun.. Very comfortable/slight recoil gun. Also reliable

I like this choice and the Mossberg 930 Duck Commander.

And not much more expensive either. Normal retail for the Stoeger M3500 is $599-699. The A300 Outlander is $649-779. Outlander can't shoot 3.5", but I really have never felt the need for anything bigger than 3" when duck hunting.

Just my opinion but I am firm believer in starting out with a Pump Shotgun for Ducks. Shooting a Pump makes you focus more and makes you adjust better after missing a target. I find that with an automatic guys get a tendency to pull the trigger without adjusting thier line of sight. I still shoot my 870 Wingmaster every hunt. A Pump will make you a more disciplined hunter and an overall better shot in the end. At least thats what I think.

My bad. Meant to put 3.5". Obviously the outlander shoots 3". I've edited...

Ninja edit.

My two cents:

The A300 is the best bang for the buck shotgun on the market if you are looking to buy new. The gun shoots like a dream, low recoil, and feels great in the hands. 1000 rounds out of the box with a variety of loads from 7/8 to 1 1/8 and not one hiccup.

Get the black synthetic. I opted for the wood/blued version because I liked the weight and balance of the wood forend. The synthetic felt hollow and didn't swing right for me. But as most reviews will tell you, the finish on the barrel leaves something to be desired.

I plan to get mine ceracoated after waterfowl season and looking at forend options.

My dad just bought the a300 in bottomland camo and it is sweet. Light and hardly any recoil. Bad arse gun without having to take out a small loan
