Looking for a good all around deer rifle. Something that I can't reach out and touch em with but also good in this woods. I have a .270 would like to get a different caliber. Price range try and keep around $500 with no scope. I have a leupold I'll be putting on it.

30.06 is the answer. Tough to find a new solid rifle for $500 though

You could carry a 308 better in a smaller/lighter rifle, but good luck finding one

Kimber is more or a sporter around $1300 and what's the basic NULA? $3500

I guess I should've said "good luck finding what you are looking for in that range"

Are you gonna be shooting over 300yards in the woods?

A .270Win will do anything you just asked. But if you just want a new gun get a .270 WSM. in a Tikka.

The Montana is about 1300-1400. The 84L (only one we have, I think) is around 1800

The Forbes rifles we have are all about 1400. I missed where OP said $500.

i actually didnt read OP at all

I have a 7mm mag savage 110 with accutrigger I'm willing to part with. Comes with a Simmons cheap scope to get you by. Just throwing that out there.

45-70

I know what you meant though, Ill agree with others since you already have a 270. My choice would be 30-06, probably a Tikka T3. Might be around $700 though. Id try to find a used one as most people dont put but a few rounds through hunting rifles and they will have plenty of life left.

I recently purchased a 270 in T3 Lite/ Stainless and put a Meopta 4x12x50mm scope on it after doing six months of research. I couldn't be happier with my purchase at this point in time.

I realize you want to get away from the 270, so I would recommend you join the T3 club in another caliber. This won't be in your $500 range, but one must sacrifice a little to be in the elite club.

A.270 is a fine caliber and perfect for deer, you could just get another one and it would be easy to keep up with ammo etc. if you just want something different, I group the .270, .308 and.30-06 all in the same group and you are really splitting hairs trying to separate them, so iif you decide on a different caliber I would go with something really different such as a 7mm-08, .22-250 or on the other end of the spectrum and get a 7mm mag or WSM, or a .300 win mag or WSM.

As for brands the tikka is hard to beat and is just over your budget I would splurge and get it, if not look at savage or the ruger all American rifle

I missed the "reach out and touch em" comment. In that case, 270 wsm or 7mag.

$540 your welcome
