For the ceiling I rented a Graco sprayer from home Depot, went easy once I figured it out. You will go through some paint. This is 600 sq ft and I used 10 gallons. Do yourself a favor and buy the $45 extension so you can spray it from the ground.
Yeah, the area I'm going to be painting will be about 400-500 square feet. My basement is split about 2/3 of the way down by stairs going up to the main level. I'm going to take the railing down, add another 3 steps down to that side, and frame it in from there. Just an open door frame and some walls. About 25 feet in length, and the width depends on what all else I frame in.
How long did the ceiling painting take you? I'm thinking a Saturday should be plenty, but there are lots of beams so it will be a good bit of spraying to cover it all.
I just want an area for the kids to be able to play without shaking the house. It is already heated and cooled, so I'm looking at very basic electrical runs. A couple of lights and plugs, and hang an old TV on the wall. Storage bins and rubber flooring to dampen any sound. Now the playroom is upstairs and directly above our kitchen, so even just kids walking around makes considerable noise.

It took me about 4 hours to spray everything. It really took longer to get everything covered up and ready to be painted.
I will say this, spraying from the floor is easier but you have to think about the angle you'll be spraying. You will miss spots just due to that. I bought some flat black spray paint to climb up on a ladder and touch up once we are all done.

Thanks. I'm probably not going to cover anything. It is cinder block walls down there, and they will be covered so any overspray is fine. I'll do all the ceiling painting before any of the framing and finishing work. And the height down there is less than 8 feet, so a small step stool will work. I may even build a small scaffold that I can drag around to step up onto. I've got plenty of 2x8 laying around and could give me an extra foot or so to reach the taller areas between the beams.

You better take the time to cover up everything you don't want paint on. That includes the floor. Using a spray rig, wear a dust mask, an old Tee shirt to cover your head and eye protection. To speed things up, if you have someone to help just to mix paint, things go real fast. I sprayed a 2500 sf house in less then 5 hours. That was primmer and then ceiling paint after. I did have fans running to help with the paint dust and help paint drying.

I had a full respirator and safety glasses I was still black when I got done.
When I got finished I grabbed a beer and went back to admire my work, paint dropped off the ceiling into my beer.

What you going to use for your counter tops?
Posted on 11/22/17 at 8:31 am to fishfighter
I used a combination of 1/2 ply and some nicer pine 3/4 inch. It will be painted black along with the other counter to match.
Railing is red oak.

Swivels in and out of roll up door and rolls on beam. Built in a day so one for boiling would be no issue.

This was one of my favorite threads so I thought I'd revive it and add some of my projects.
Chicken coop and run for the wife's chickens.

I have been building a house over the last 18 months and will be finished in the next month. Should I post pics here?

Too much to list really. I've built a lot of my own furniture over the years including dining room sets of china cabinets, dining table and buffet. Also beds, dressers, entertainment centers, bookcases, desks, occasional tables, too many porch swings and wooden patio stuff to count.
I've also done a lot of one-off pieces for folks I've done construction work for who can't find that piece to fill a space in their homes----those being some of my favorite ones.

Is that chicken coop attached directly to your house? If so, your wife must really love those chickens.

No way I would have one of those suckers within a 100 yards close to my house. Sucks that I had to give mine away due to my health.

Fishfighter - haven't read the forestry forum post in a while. Didn't know your son died. Sorry to hear that.

Is it the neatest thing you ever built?
If yes then, Yes

That's some nice post and beam work. Love how you have used mortise and tenon joints on a lot of that construction.
Damn sure is heavy work not intended for the faint of heart.
